Great museum of historical musical instruments, many pianos and piano type instruments but also much much more. Anybody who is interested in anything connected with music will enjoy. Most of the instruments are 19th and 20th century so some few hundred years old.

I am one of those people who are not musically inclined but I found this museum very interesting. It comprises a large collection of musical instruments, especially pianos, covering several centuries - including those used by Beethoven and Mozart An audio is available which gives details of the exhibits and is recommended. Entry is free with a Vienna pass or... More

If you visit the superb art gallery (Kunsthistorisches Museum) hang on to your ticket. Not the receipt.. the actual ticket with a picture because that will also get you into this museum. It's close to the Winter Riding School and we nearly failed because we had only saved our receipt and not the ticket. However, the dear lady receptionist (vielen... More

This museum perfectly fits to Vienna, City of Music. The collection of ancient musical instruments gathered here in about ten large rooms is amazing, even for those who - like me - are not music experts; indeed this museum allows an unparalleled opportunity to understand a little more. The risk that this museum looks suitable just for an audience of... More

There were lots of musical instruments on display with piano-like examples being the most popular. Additionally both Mozart and Beethoven, amongst others, get a mention. The Neue Berg museum was also shared with a display of armour - a strange juxtaposition. For me the only downside was that the information provided about each of the exhibits was in German alone... What a wonderful collection of musical instruments. They are mostly from the early 20th and 19th century. So date back 500 years ago. Be sure to get the audio guide because there no English explanations inside.

Entrance to the this museum is included in the ticket to the Kunsthistorisches Museum, which is located a short distance from Neue Burg (the home of this museum). There were very few people there when I visited, so it felt like I had the cavernous exhibition halls all to myself. Lots of different musical instruments to behold, although the explanatory... This collection of historic instruments is wonderful, and it's a "must do" for music lovers. In particular, the audio guide was great. The audio guide comes in two parts: one part is a typical audio guide, giving an explanation of the instrument and its history, etc, but the other part, which only appeared on some exhibits, was a musical recording... An amazing collection of instruments - some played by Mozart, Beethoven and Hayden. The instruments include curious rarities. Bring a camera (no flash). Not crowded. The audio guide also offers some music to hear the music on specific instruments.
