The Bastei has such history associated with it dating from 1535 when known as the Scottish Bastei. Renamed after Melk Abbey in 1656 by Emperor Ferdinand 111 when he had it enlarged. Except for remnants of the city wall( that are visible today) that linked 2 towers all was demolished from 1861-1872. Walk up the steps & in doing so... More
