I have seen quite a few Christmas markets around Europe and this might be the most beautiful one I have ever seen. When you visit Vienna during Winter time you should definitely visit the Christkindlmarkt am Karlsplatz in the evening.

We visited the Karlsplatz Christmas Market while we were in Vienna and it was one of our favourites. It seemed that there were a lot of locals there with children. It was dusk when we visited with the lights coming on, a magical experience. We found it easily with about a 10 minute walk from the Am Heumarkt tram stop

Very interesting place, surrounded by architectural landmarks. the best is, of course, the Karlskirche.

Just in front of the church and on the way to the U Bahn station, the park is relaxed, mostly clean and features a kids playground. It is a nice spot to stop and look around and think a bit while mending tired legs.

The Karlsplatz runs from the Ringstrasse and the subway station all the way back to the Karlskirche, which really is the main sight to see. We passed thru the park many times heading back to our hotel. It is more of a local park, normally quiet and not crowded so a good getaway. The park is full of greenery, flowers,... More

Karlsplatz has a little park an U bahn as well as tram 1, 62 and the Badner Bahn as well as bus number 4A. It has the few of the lovely Karls Kirche or just a short walk to it as well is not too far from a couple of museums. I frequent it very often to get away from... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
