The area
Neighbourhood: Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.

Walking along this Pedestrian Mall shows that there can be life in central city cores. High end stores are featured as well as landmarks such as St Stephan’s Cathedral. During Christmas time it is especially beautiful(and crowded)

Graben is a famous pedestrian street to the northwest of Stephensplatz. The street is lined with retail shopping, nice cafes and building buildings. You'll also find nice fountains and the historic Plague Column monument. Environs are very good for leisurely strolling, a bit of shopping, a coffee and picture taking while exploring and sightseeing this famous street in the heart of Innere Stadt.

You will not pass this place exactly if you are walking in the city center. Beautiful and cozy, there are always tourists here. There are many magazines, and in the winter there are davki with various confetti and tânučki.

Graben (one of the most famous squares in Vienna) and Kohlmarkt (expensive shopping area), located in the middle of the city.

We walked through the area, enjoying the energy and Christmas lights.

Very grand streets with many of the major fashion houses. Some of the side streets have more local and independent stores but again at similar high prices. Worth walking around but bring your credit card

Graben & Kohlmarkt are two streets in the historic centre ,in fact only a stones throw from the magnificent St Stephen's Cathedral that although predominantly shopping streets have some fine cafés and cafe bars along ,I really enjoy visiting them and taking in the stunning architecture that graces both these streets ,my twin brother Stephen and I were in Vienna in the run up to the Christmas period and these streets were beautifully decorated and bouncing ,absolutely packed ,a great atmosphere ,visited some great cafe bars enjoying iced cold beers watching the world rush by ,well worth checking out if you're planning a holiday to Vienna.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to enjoy the little side streets and only walked through the main pedestrian area, but it was truly the most magnificent Christmas light display I’ve seen on streets. I saw someone describe it as an outdoor ballhouse, and I thought it was fitting. Shops are closed on a Sunday, but cafes are filled to the brink even outside. Probably one of the nicest shopping streets/tourists areas I’ve visited in European capitals.

This area is very beautiful and was our favorite spot to hang out during our trip. There are beautiful cafes filled with very friendly waiters where you can spend some time having an Aperol Spritz and enjoy the beautiful gothic architecture.

Excellent shopping street with many cafes, restaurants, and shops for everyone. If you want pictures, go very early in the morning as this place gets crowded during business hours…

They are the streets linking stephansplatz (the main square) to michaelerplatz (the square of hofburg). They are mandatory for first time travellers. Full of shops and historical buildings.
