Kartnerstrasse is the tourist attraction of the city. This is the street of the locals. Just stay low and be a local and you will love it for sure.

Mariahilferstrasse is an extremely long, mostly pedestrianised street of shops, food outlets and cafes serving mainly local people rather than tourists. If you want a reminder of what shopping streets looked like before Amazon this is the place to go. At six in the evening on a Monday it was packed. Well worth a visit

I detest the thought of shopping on any holiday I take , I actually can't understand why you would choose to visit a beautiful city such as Vienna and then put large swathes of you're time trawling into shops very similar or in some cases identical to the shopping streets you've left behind to go on holiday from for such a mundane and boring task as shopping but Mariahilfer Straße is slightly different ,ok ,it's a long street that has lots and lots of shopping outlets along but to me this street offers so much more ,great architecture ,historic sites and amazing cafe's ,bars ,pubs and restaurants to chill out in ,my twin brother Stephen and I were in Vienna on the run up to Christmas ,street looked lovely decked out for the festive period ,we dropped into some great taverns and had a great time and guess what ,we never even looked at a shop .
Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Mariahilfer Strasse is Vienna's main shopping street.
And it is long-long-long.
You'll find shops of many (international) brands here.
If you like shopping, this is a place to go.
If you don't have much time in Vienna, just take a glimp at the first 100 metres.

When I see this beautiful street rated 4 stars I simply don't get it. This is one of the best shopping streets in Europe. It's beautiful, full of great stores, near it there are many wonderful cafes and restaurants. When visiting Vienna, coming here is an absolute must.

Something you just have to do when in Vienna. The walk is very ling, but nice and interesting. Not much of the history, just shops and a lot of people of all kind. Be aware of lots of constructions and few cars trying to make their way.

A very long shopping street. With almost all fast fashion retail brands. But be aware that at the moment they are having a couple of major construction work going there, so if you plan to book a hotel there, I highly suggest you to rethink it. The pedestrian part is still there, alright, but with all the construction there.. you hardly enjoy it, because that part is a mess. Shoppers, tourists, cyclists, joggers, construction workers, beggars.. etc..

Bit sad to walk this nice street with all closed due to covid but this is the new normal. Calm and not as normal full of people but i guess this is something to see as well, street starts close to museamquartier and is a nice walk with some interesting building to see along the way. And hopefuly in the future all the shops and resturants will be again open.
