This zoo is like going to a fairy tail zoo. It's a beautiful zoo with lots of animals. If you go up the hill you can have lunch or coffee while roosters and chickens scratch and peck around you. Charming.

Big area so Lots of walking required but great range of animals! Loved the highest part where you could see miles around you with beautiful views. Walking distance from tube. Street signs could be a little easier to read.

Normally a bit wary of zoos, but found this one very impressive. The animal enclosures were quite large and all animals looked well cared for. Plenty to see in the zoo as it is so large, but it's not particularly well laid out and sign posted so you may find yourself wandering past the same place two or three times.

Cool place to take kids on a Sunday afternoon. Historic and up-to-date zoo. Great playgrounds. They also do kids birthday parties.

It's not only the oldest but imho the best there is. The cages and the outdoor areas for the animals are clean and relatively big. There is a tropical house, monkey and elephant house, snake house ect. The area is very nice especially in summer. The prices are not cheap but I think they are fair.

I have visited many Zoos across the globe. This has nothing more interesting. Don't wast your time, In Schoenbrunn there are many other more attractive areas to visit. The Museum palace, the garden, and the little concert beside the Palace. The Tiergarten can be interesting for kids only!

The most wonderful animals. did not see any of the repetitive traits in the animals that makes you feel sorry for them. They all acted in a way that implied they were happy!

I visited the place with my brother and some friends of us. It was in the middle of September and the weather was really nice; with the sun shining. Thats the reason why we could enjoy it at the fullest. I really recommend to visit it when the weather is nice. Its perfect for family walks on holidays! Enjoy it... More

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
