The arch was built in 1765 in honor of the wedding of Leopold to Maria Ludovica of Tuscany. It expresses the joy of the marriange on one side, and the sadness of the death of Francis I on the other.

This arch, although it looks like to be of ancient times, is not really that old. The Baroque structure was built by order of Maria Theresa in the 18th century when the Empress was planning the wedding of her son Archduke Leopold in Innsbruck.

The Triumphal Arch pays tribute to a joyous and a tragic event. The south side shows wedding. However, a great misfortune befell Empress Maria Theresa during the celebrations. Her husband and the father of the groom died. Therefore the north side of the Triumphal Arch shows mourning motives to commemorate the sudden death of the emperor.

Today, the arch is located in a very busy place (a short walk from the casino and the Marriott Hotel). Not only do many cars and trams pass by it, but even buses pass through it.

This arch commemorates two events in one monumental way. Kind of like in real life - joyful events like wedding are intertwined with death.... Nice to look at, as you walk through the old city. It takes a few moments to be able to appreciate the depictions.

Located on the busy, central Maria Theresien street, it's worth a photo. Can't be climbed/entered as of this writing, but that could depend on specially arranged tours. Just unfortunate that it's situated so that cars and people go under and through with such frequency that doesn't bode well for its condition and upkeep.

The Roman-style Triompforte dates from the 18th century and was commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa on the occasion of her son's wedding.
The reliefs of the arch commemorate the wedding on one side, while on the other side the death of Emperor Franz Stephan is commemorated.
It was located at the beginning of the MT Straße pedestrian shopping street and actually right next to our hotel.
Nice arch but otherwise not that special.

A monument commissioned by Maria Teresa of Austria in the 18th century and which vaguely recalls the arches of Ancient Rome. Innsbruck's Triumphal Arch clashes with the style of the city. But in some ways it constitutes a bit of a gateway to the Old City. To the left begins Maria Theresa Strasse and the crescendo of shops and

The Arc de Triomphe was built in 1765 and has a history. The Arc de Triomphe is a landmark building in Innsbruck. When you see it, you know where you are. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the must-visit places for tourists to take photos. If you haven’t been to the Arc de Triomphe, you haven’t been to Innsbruck. It's like a smaller version of the Brandenburg Gate, it's very similar.

The Triumphal Arch is roughly located at the entrance to the Old City of Innsbruck & was constructed in the late 1700s to commemorate a wedding. It is not a large Arch in the tradition of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but it serves its purpose quite well.

On the edge of the old town a quite unmissable and typical monument. Interestingly the arch is celebrating 2 different events on its two faces. Nothing extraordinary though

Free to see, the arch has some impressive statues and stands imposingly at a crossroads. Definitely worth seeing, but don't go out of your way.
