A really pretty green place in middle of Salzburg Old Town in the grounds of the University of Salzburg. The Furtwänglerpark part of Universitatsplatz has some fine statues including the humorous Wild Man Fountain and Gherkin sculpture, as well as more serious statue of Friedrich Schiller. On the other side of the Furtwänglerpark is the green market that still takes place daily on it, with market stalls for fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, sausages, fish, flowers and souvenirs etc.

Don't just walk through! Take a look inside the university library, visit Kollegien Kirche, walk through some of the beautiful passages to Getreidegasse and avoid the tourist traps ;)

Clearly a happening end of town with lots of cafes and a nice pedestrian area, but what got my attention was the sculpture of pickles. The sculpture clearly got my attention and I found it put a smile on my face:)

This is a popular market area in Salzburg and the stalls' fare include meats, cheeses, chocolates, fruit and flowers. You can also have a coffee and cake. Also have a look at the University [Collegiate] church which has a very interesting history including its use in the period when the university was not operating.

Nice location to visit. The University cafe is cosy for coffee and cakes. There are several stalls selling cheeses, flowers, meat, Pretzels, chocolates and many other things. It has a unique atmosphere. Close by, you can visit the Collegiate Church. There are a few interesting sculptures in the locality. In the evening people gathered to have a few drinks before attending concert in the large Festival Hall (Großes Festspielhaus).

There seems to be market stalls here every day, mostly selling food which is interesting, esoecially the austrian produce ones. There are also some interesting old buildings and the collegiate church here. Definitely worth a visit if youbhave time.

If you are looking for produce, check out Univeritatsplatz in the mornings when there is a regular market. A nice break from all the Christmas markets occurring in other squares in old town.

I wouldn't make a special trip to visit it but if you are visiting the old area of Salzburg it's worth adding this square to your lists of things to see.

Is it possible to hear the students playing music or singing. I was told by a guide that is was like going to a real concert.
