One of the great fortresses in Europe I think. Visited on Christmas Day and went early to avoid the crowds. Fantastic views across the Alps and Salzburg with lots to explore within the fortress itself. Purchased the full set of tours which allowed exploration of...More

The Vehicular railway make it easily accessible to all.....magnificent views. Allow yourself a couple of hours to see it all...very impressive, many thanks to the staff.

Quick audio tour gets you around the castle. Takes around 30 min. Breath taking view from top of the castle.

We walked up to the fortress via the steep hill - and worked off all the strudel! We enjoyed the audio tour, the museum and great views from the top and then got the funicular back down. Spent pretty much the morning there.

Opted for the basic tour (24€ for 2 adults) which included a ride up, and down, on the funicular railway and access to most areas of the castle. A bright clear day made the views from the top a real treat. Had a good wander...More

About a mile walk from our hotel along Getreidegasse (the golden mile shopping district along the hundreds-year-old street in old town), we reached the funicular (cable railway) that whisks you up - at a 45-degree incline - about 350 feet to the HohenSalzburg fortress in...More

Arguably the best place to visit in Salzburg. Climb to the top of the tower and you will enjoy a spectacular 360-degree view of the Salzburg city and surroundings. Better to carry a zoom lens if you like photography.

You get to the fortress using a little funicular railway. The basic price includes the funicular, entry to the castle and a short tour with an audio guide. There are very good views of the city from the top, and the audio guide points out...More

There is not a lot to see in the grounds themselves apart from viewing the fantastic scenery. You cannot wander inside the fortress on your own - you need to go round in a group with audio guide. In winter the basic tour... More

Entering the castle is not free. You buy a general ticket to go up. Walking around the grounds and touring part of the castle is included. There is an extra fee for the "complete" tour of the inside the castle. It's well... More
