Very nice ride up with scenic panorama train. Such a shame the ride ended quickly. Beautiful view over Salzburg with great opportunity to take photos. Lovely museum (including Marionette museum)

After seeing a lot of artwork (which is lovely), I kind of appreciated getting to see the fortress which showcases some statues & art, but also weapons and defenses. They do a good job of describing the history and various tactics used over time, and...More

The lift up takes about one minute. But the lift is always packed full with people, so squeeze in! The view is worth it.

The fortress is perched atop a mountain, and offers wonderful views of the city. The self-guided tour is very well done, with a lot of helpful information about the history of the fortress and what you see from its ramparts. Be prepared for a lot...More

OK - as noted in another review, there are parts of the tour that are less than exciting. That being said, it was well worth the climb (we walked up and took the lift down) to see the absolutely stunning views of the entire area....More

Absolutely awful museum. The basic ticket includes the most boring, substandard tour of the fortress, buuuuuuuuuuutttttt, if you pay extra you can see the Princes rooms, which are the only thing worth seeing anyway. Felt like I wasted my time and money here. Fortress is...More

Fantastic views over Salzburg and the surrounding area, you can take a funicular to the top, however, I walked it was by no means an easy feat, but incredibly satisfying once I reached the top.

We visited the fortress this past weekend and enjoyed it so much even though we are locals. The views from the top alone would be worth it, but the audioguided tours are equally interesting for tourists and locals alike. Highly recommended!

I believe including in Salzburg card . I was there in fall so funicular up to the fortress was open , I walked to the base from our hotel 20 min walk . Walk up is hard . Down is fast , easy and pretty !

Is the attraction (or any part thereof) pet friendly? Could one bring along a small dog in a handbag?

There is lots of space outside for a small dog to walk around on a lead but worth emailing the attraction to check on allowing a dog. There's lots of stairs for little dog legs!

How much time would you allot for a visit? Will 2 hours do? We're planning to go up in the afternoon at 3 and noticed that it closes at 5. Is that enough time? Thanks!

Two hours is enough time. The Audio tour lasts about 30-45 mins (depending how long you stay at each point). I recommend the Salzburg Card if you are planning to visit other sights too.
