We walked up to the fortress one time and rode the tram the second time. I think I appreciated the view more after the hike! Beautifully preserved, very cool, and views are spectacular.

Breathtaking views from high above the city are offered at the fortress. If their is one tour to take, this is it! Amazing photos from here.

Offering panoramic views over Salzburg this is a great place to spend half a day roaming, entry ( and funicular) included if purchasing a Salzburg card

The view of Salzburg from the castle is worth the price of admission. It gives you a perfect place to take pictures. If you take the audio tour, you can get an even better view higher up in the castle. From there you can see...More

Amazing views of Salzburg and the surrounding area. Tickets are cheaper after 4PM! Museum not worth it; stick to the outside.

Visited on a cold snowy February but still well worth going up in the funicular. Great views and interesting museum/ Excellently preserved medieval castle but rustic in comparison with British ones like Edinburgh, Windsor or Warwick. Views were still great despite the time of year....More

This was definitely a pleasant surprise. Thanks to the tourism advisor at the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof who gave the idea to first make the run to Untersberg and then come for the fortress. The funicular ride is something amazing (Also included in the Salzburg card if...More

Absolutely fantastic! We can enjoy not only the beautiful view of the city from the top but also the museum inside which shows much of the history of the fortress.

There is not a lot to see in the grounds themselves apart from viewing the fantastic scenery. You cannot wander inside the fortress on your own - you need to go round in a group with audio guide. In winter the basic tour... More

Entering the castle is not free. You buy a general ticket to go up. Walking around the grounds and touring part of the castle is included. There is an extra fee for the "complete" tour of the inside the castle. It's well... More
