Among the 21 departments and institutions of the Joanneum Universal Museum, founded as the Joanneum in 1811, the Armoury is in a class of its own. Attracting around 55,000 visitors annually, it is the Joanneum's most-visited institution without an exhibitions role. Moreover, as the largest historic armoury in the world, it is a living memorial to a chequered, conflict-ridden past, whose bogeymen and prejudices are still with us.

Really good museum, however you will need the audioguide as there are no boards explaining about the different areas. The audioguide pieces are short but very informative for each area. Well worth seeing if you are in Graz.

We Visited the armoury in August 2015 and were quite taken aback by how large the collection/display is. We were also impressed by how helpful the caretakers were in explaining the exhibits. We spent just over an hour wandering through the four levels of the...More

The collection is very impressive but we were a little bit disapointed since there's absolutely no explanation about them. A little legend in German/English could have made the visit more educational. I recommend to visit this museum if you already know something of Medieval history.

Located at the Old Town, the Styrian Armoury one of the better museums in Graz, particularly if you're into history. The four levels of the museum are literally filled with various weapons, including firearms, swords, sabres, polearms, artillery and armours (the full horse armour is...More

In Graz visiting family and they recommended this museum! Had our teenage boys with us. It took about an hour to go through. Headsets were available with different languages to tell about all of the armour. The headset recordings allowed you to go at your...More

Boyfriend wanted to go here so we took a tour and was quite a large museum actually, looks smaller from the outside. Not something I'm normally interested in, but if medieval things are something you are interested this is a well executed exhibition. Lots of...More

One of my favorite museums in Europe, I cannot decide if it is because of the items, of the building or the excellent guides. I have been here twice, once as student and once in 2013, i plan on visiting it again. I think that...More

Originally went here because we were at a bit of a loose end but really pleased we did. Had the audio guide which is definitely worth getting and really enjoyed seeing the massive collection.
