Great View

A good climb especially on a sunny day but the view over the wachau valley is worth it when you get to the top.

or just another ruin...located at the end/begin of the Welterbesteig near Dürnstein. Easy to reach, just a few minutes from the center, nice view over the Wachau.

if you have a good condition go ahead to the top, because it has a beautiful view, the building itself doesn´t have too much to see, but if you don´t feel like to climb don´t dare, because it is a lot to climb and just for the view ¡

It's a fairly steep hike to the top, but worth it! I imagined what it looked like when it was in it's prime. Awesome history...the village below just above the Danube was amazing as well. A MUST see!!

Spectacular views from the top. the hike is up an unpaved dirt road, so please be careful going up, and actually I would not recommend it on rainy or snowy days, as it gets a bit steep at times. If you have heart or lung condition be aware. However once at the top , the views of the Danube and... More

Amazing views if you are able to make the hike...would definitely caution for people with heart or lung conditions...the shops at the base are also very quaint ...selling local products...would definitely recommend a visit for the photo-ops alone

Durnstein is a very pretty village on the banks of Danube in Austria. It had very narrow streets and quirky shops. Very picturesque. I located a very steep, long and at times rocky trail that led to the ruins of the castle. It was a tough climb and, because of time constraints, could not really enjoy the views at the... More

Views are great and yes it is a bit of a hike. They seem to know when you have to catch your breath because there are different things to read along the way. Views of the Danube and town are amazing.

A visit to Durnstein would not be complete without a hike up to the old castle. Look for the sign towards the south end of town on the main street directing you to the path up to the castle. Warning - it is not an easy climb! If you are out of shape just take your time, you"ll get there!... More

This was a wonderful find in such a small town. The hike up was not too tiring and the view is fantastic.
