Probably, the main touristic attraction in Monaco
Probably, main attraction in Monaco. Old building on the top of the rock. Live section (fishes, lobsters, etc.) is nice, but quite usual nowadays, historical part is more attractive

The yellow submarine is outside the Oceanographic Museum
My wife and I visited Monaco during an excursion on a Viking Ocean Cruise this past November. The Museum is in an impressive building on the cliff overlooking the ocean. A yellow submarine is in the plaza outside the museum. Our time was limited so we did not have time to tour the aquarium.

    Nice museum, rude customer service
We went to the museum in October, had 1.5 hours before closing. We mainly wanted to see the aquariums, so it was OK. They had a large variety of fish & other sea creatures, very nice. The big sea turtle outside seemed a little lonely and it’s tank was way too small, my teen & I felt sorry for it. Otherwise we really liked the aquariums and wished we had more time to look at all the fish. Our visit turned sour, however, when we went to the shop by the exit (which you have to walk through in order to exit). We were there 10 minutes before closing, all while the staff kept telling people that the museum will be closing NOW. I wanted to grab some stuffed animals for my kids, but were shooed out really rudely by a customer service lady. We left the things without buying them and went out, where I noticed that it’s 5 to - we still would have had five minutes! So yes, we could have gone earlier, but if it says closing at 6 PM, you would assume that you have time until then?!

    Fantastic Awuarium
Absolutely loved visiting here. The aquarium is the best we have ever visited. The Museum above the aquarium was very interesting and detailed the links of the Monaco Royal Family. There is also an escape room challenge for those that are inclined.

Variety of sea life to explore and learn about
A beautiful historic building houses the aquarium, it has 5 levels, with a variety of sea life, including turtles to look at up close. The interactive polar exhibits are interesting and unique. The grand hall of the sea life cabinet of curiosities is definitely a sight to behold. Learned a lot at the aquarium. Spent about 2 hours (2 adults) exploring all the exhibits and viewing platforms. Go early. Buy your tickets online way ahead of time. There was a huge lineup for people buying tickets on site when we were leaving the aquarium around noon.

    Busy, but lots to see
We visited this museum on the last day of our trip, as it was raining and there wasn’t much else to do. Unfortunately, everyone had the same idea as us, and the place was packed, which meant waiting to see some of the exhibits, and avoiding feral children running around. However, the aquarium itself was large, with a variety of animals including an octopus and a turtle which you don’t always see. I don’t know about the ethical aspect of keeping such animals in tanks, as other reviewers have mentioned, so I will have to do some more research. The actual museum part was beautifully done, with classic decor in keeping with the old building, with the actual exhibits and art integrated seamlessly. The exhibits were engaging, with plenty of information and different styles, e.g. a big boat you could go in, holograms, an immersive arctic experience, etc. This part of the museum was also quieter than the aquarium. Main thing we didn’t like about the museum was the cafe, which was on the roof, and required us walking along the slippy rooftop in the rain to get to. Cafe was dated and they didn’t serve a huge variety of food so we just ordered coffee, which arrived lukewarm. Other than that, it was a good day out.

If you are an adult who has seen an aquarium or two, then forget this place.
The architecture is interesting as it is positioned on a cliff, but the exhibits are plain. For not only kids, but young kids.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS FACADE! Fish (many of which do not naturally school) are placed in disgustingly small enclosures in such a high quantity that you can almost feel the stress emitting from each animal. Almost every exhibit is that way. Clownfish do not need to be stuffed into a 150-gallon tank by the hundreds, or any fish for that matter. Don't even get me started on the octopus. I find it highly ironic that in Monaco, one of the most affluent countries in the world, such egregious animal rights violations are being perpetrated. I truly do not understand how this place maintains a 4.5-star rating, but I am writing this in hopes that it will convince others not to spend a 19€ entrance fee to witness animals in crisis.

It is also extremely overcrowded. Expect to wait in long lines to see each and every equally overcrowded tank. With such a high amount of traffic, you would think some of those extra funds would be used to improve the welfare of the animals but no. Not only are the tight, congested hallways stressful for visitors, but the noise and commotion are also very stressful for the animals as well. Frankly, I haven't been to many other aquariums but, If this is standard for many other aquariums I'm disgusted. DO BETTER.

Side note, the architecture of this building is gorgeous and the actual museum portion was somewhat interesting, but it is completely overshadowed by how unethical the aquarium remains.

Sure have a strange way of expressing your "love".

I recently lost my phone which contained hundreds of pictures I took last summer to document this borderline animal abuse. I wish that I still had the photos to truly depict how BEYOND CRUEL this institution is. The Google images along with their website paint this institution as some kind of paradise, but that is far from the truth. I urge you DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR MONEY.

This is a very beautiful museum. A must see when in Monte Carlo
I was here years ago and they added a lot of new artifacts. It's very informative and the sea creatures are breathtaking. I enjoyed the history as well of the men in the royal family.

This is a very interesting place to visit. You can park in a parking garage next to it. It is a popular school group site so be aware you may be amongst school children during the school year.
