This monument was made in 1973. It’s located in the center near the Famagusta gate and a large park. The statues remind us the history of Cyprus. We sat on a bench for a while and relax. It’s worth a short visit and some pics.

Went to the Byzantine museum and on the way back stopped and saw the statue. It's okay to visit it if one has plenty of time and nothing to do. One can also walk to the Famagusta Gate which is close by.

Decent monument. Rather isolated - there isn’t much to see around the square besides the Liberty Monument - a few cafes and restaurants

This is a lovely monument commemorating heroes of independence from British rule. It’s well worth taking a little time to look at the details and understand the history behind it and when it will be officially unveiled.

A monument that is rapped up in the Turmoil of Cypriot History. It was erected in 1973 to commemorate the release from prison in 1959 of EOKA fighters. It shows a statue of liberty overseeing two EOKA heroes tugging on chains in order to open prison gates and release Greek Cypriot prisoners, peasants and clergy, from British colonial rule.
You will notice that there are no Turkish Cypriot prisoners being released, as they were considered to have been allies of the British during colonial times. Remember, this is 1973, and Turkish Cypriots had by then, to all intents and purposes, become non-citizens. This adds to the interest and controversy. The statues themselves are very well defined and realistic. Overall a very well executed monument albeit one that causes some debate.

It represents the passion and desire for liberty and it is really doing that in a dramatic fashion. It was erected in 1973 to honor the Cypriot struggle against the British during 1955-1959. It is a pity to think that not long after it was erected the Turkish invasion took place (1974). It is also a pity since it seems that the municipality of Nicosia doesn't care a lot to maintain this fine monument in a decent condition and the reason for this is the graffiti you can easily see allover the back of the monument. I can't understand why anyone would like to ruin such a monument, but it is the responsibility of the municipality to restore it as soon as possible.

The Liberty Monument was erected in 1973 to honor the anti-British EOKA fighters of the Cyprus Emergency of 1955–1959 and it contains several statues.

The Liberty Monument was completed in 1973 but will not be officially unveiled until the nearly 40% of Cyprus that is occupied by Turkey is free. It is a reminder of the Cypriot condition and the struggle for freedom.

Monument where Liberty looks on as two soldiers liberate different citizens from prison. Opposite the aqueduct and on top of the City Walls.
