I am not sure if it is worth visiting it as the connections by public transport are terrible! It is really sad because if it was accessible, I would give it more stars. However, you spend more time trying to get there than the time you spend there because it is small and there is not much to see. You see the mosque inside and some archaeological things but this takes 5 minutes. It is a pity because actually it is not far from the city center. The bus route was showing that there was a bus stop nearer to it but even though I pressed the button, the bus only stopped at the airport, there was no bus stop sign along the road! There is one bus stop by the mosque, however, the bus rarely goes there and the whole trip takes like one hour from the center which is madness. Check Cyprus by bus and you will understand what I am talking about. And you need to wear long pants or long skirt/dress to enter there. At least entrance was for free!

I would suggest to reach the site with your own transportation. There is a nice view on the salt lake of Larnaka. It is difficult to appreciate fully the historical site because there are no explanation on site, you have to google it. The mosque has a very nice architecture. We where not allowed inside unfortunately. It made it a 10 minutes visit…
There is a small cemetery at the back with Arabic signs that are interesting to see.
I would go there if it’s on the itinerary, but I would not plan this visit as a destination.
Across the mosque on the other side of the lake there is a place called Salt lake view point with a stunning view on the lake and on the mosque.

We went there to discover that we were in shorts and they didn’t have anything for people to cover. So we couldn’tcome in. So stupid. We went for a walk by the lake, nothing special, maybe if you are a crazy lady obsessed with cats, you would enjoy it.

It is very hard to approach this place, because the public bus transport is terrible.
I cannot tell anything about the building and the sights, because we wore shorts, and the in this case the entry is frobidden. Before the covid they gave a dress which covers your body, but now it is not available.
We spent almost 3 hours for the nothing. It seems we are very bad persons because we wear pants in the sunshine. I fully understand the religious origin of this habit, but…
Anyway, the salt lake, the garden and the flamingos are very nice, but I suggest that you have to go there by car.

Hala Sultan Tekke is a mosque and tekke complex on the west bank of Larnaca Salt Lake. It is quite important place for Muslim people. Mosque is not so impressive but because of location it is quite interesting place to make a stop and explore a little.

Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites. The mosque was built in 1817, 3 kilometers west of Larnaca on the main Salt Lake of Cyprus. In the 18th century, the dervish Sheikh Hassan discovered a two-chambered tomb inscribed in Old Ottoman that contains Hala Sultan, Umm Haram bint Milhan, who, was the adopted sister of the Prophet Muhammad's mother (peace be upon him) Amina, and wife of his companion.
Umm Haram, already old, arrived from Medina to Cyprus in either 647 or 649 and died shortly after arriving on the shores of the salt lake. Construction of a mosque on the site began, under the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid I.
The mosque is an important Islamic monument that fatefully ended up in Larnaca, not Mecca. Turkish military vessels passing a mosque fire a volley of guns in honour of Umm Haram.
In 1978, an excavation discovered a treasure trove containing 23 pieces of pure gold.
Any Traveler can visit here while respecting the shrine in their clothes.
Admission is free.
There are a lot of cats in the mosque that are usually fed.

You have to walk along the salt lake (on foot or by car) to get to the mosque next to it. You can see it from a distance.
The view is really beautiful and the place relaxing.
We were greeted by dozens of cats but without any aggression.
Be careful, you must dress in decent and respectful outfits to be allowed in i.e. knee and shoulders covered.
However, the place is not very welcoming (no hello).
The exterior is pretty but the interior is much more sober with just a small chandelier and the small prayer room for men. The women's one is upstairs but we couldn't visit it.
Amazing thing: two coffins were there permanently.
The visit is very short (about 15 minutes) but the place is nice.

There is strict dress code as in other Muslim sacred places, so we did not go inside. Buildings are smaller than looks in picture, but beautiful surrounding. But if you walk or go biking around Larnaka Salt Lake, then this is good place to relax in tree shade and there are lots of friendly cats and kittens.

Do not come to the mosque in shorts, short skirt or with bare shoulders otherwise you will not be allowed in
Also you’re going to see a lot if reviews complaining and giving it low stars for the dress code but at the end of the day its a place of worship, not to mention its a universal rule and all mosques have this dress code.
Anyways! Lovely mosque with many friendly cats and close to the salt lake which you can go and see as well. Only spent 20/25 mins here altogether plus it’s free and has toilets.

To access the site you need to cover your legs, we had shorts so were denied entry,
the site is close to the town but not easy to access. Make sure you have trousers/long skirt to access the site. Salt lake is interesting to see as it is in the same area.

How can i get to Hala Sultan Tekke mosque from Finikoudes bus stop in Larnaca. Are there any buses going to the mosque or does the journey involve a bit of walking too.
Please advise, Many thanks.

I think its a long walk from the nearest bus stop, the best way is by taxi you can almost see it from Lanarca airport so its close to there. I was there for Jumaah so alot of people pitched in and shared a taxi ride back to the resort areas so in-expensive by taxi.

Many thanks

A short drive, easy to park by the lake then a stroll to the mosque. Closer parking if mobility is an issue.

This historic mosque is located 3km west of Larnaka on the road to Kiti, on the main Salt Lake. After the Arab armies successfully landed in Larnaka in 648AD, the Holy Helper and aunt of Mohamed - Umm Haram - died at the site when she fell off her mule. Grand Khalif Moavia, who was taking part in the expedition, immediately ordered the construction of a mosque on the spot. The mosque was first renovated in 1816, and most recently in 2002 by UNOPS, when archaeological excavations also revealed that the site has been inhabited since Neolithic times, with some archaeologists believing that the tomb is a monumental monolithic tomb of the prehistoric period. Today, the mosque is the main Muslim pilgrimage site of Cyprus, and stands as one of the most important holy places of worship for Muslims, ranked immediately after Mecca, Medina in Saudi Arabia and Al Aksha in Jerusalem.
