An excellent free attraction. Fairly easy steps to climb up. Interesting ruins. Exceptional views. No café. Wear sensible shoes and take some water with you.

Both sites very interesting and worth the hair pin bends. A knowledgeable guide will help. Quite a climb to a view point. Not for the faint hearted. €1 for lavatory.

The turning off the Besparmak Road for the castle is cunningly concealed - it is opposite the restaurant - coming from Girne it is opposite the restaurant about 6 km from the junction with the coast road. The road from there on to the castle...More

Hiking this castle literally brought out my love of hiking, I haven't done it ever since, but I'm looking forward to do it again during the next visit to see the family. I'm not a big sports kind of person, so I was so surprised...More

1.2 km up and the same down! Oxigenation, combined with the super view! One of the strategic points of the isle defense, along with St. Hilarion and Kantara castle!

To us this seemed the best castle - it's in a beautiful location up a long windy road. After parking it's a steep walk up to the castle itself but it's got good steps up to the top. From the top it's a fantastic view...More

A longish drive up a narrow precipitous lane (but with a few passing places) brings you to a car parking area followed by quite a zig zag walk to what must be the best viewing point in northern cyprus! Lovely ruins on Christmas Day and...More

Buffavento like St. Hilarion and Kantara is a medieval castle on the Kyrenia Mountain which was originally built as a watctower to warn against Arab raids. Buffavento was also used as a lookout for approaching ships that might have brought danger to the island. Signals...More

Ok guys! This was a rough one. Buffavento Castle is perched about 3150 feet (960m) almost straight up! The only road up in narrow and there is no safety net. We were in a wide jeep and my friend , who has driven the 6km...More
