    Ruins with a view
Absolutely stunning view and there are parts that are very well preserved. It would be great if they had more information boards. It is a steady hike up, and if it is summer I would recommend going when it first opens (though it is still hot), take plenty of water and sunscreen.

    Kyrenia a fantastic holiday destination
This is our third visit only punctuated by covid. The friendship shown by the local inhabitants is second to none. Use publict transport when you can as its frequent and inexpensive. Pacific car rentals would give you top service which is exemplary. Choose your tra el company carefully and investigate cost likewise We had s bad experience with ours. Overall a good experience in north cyprus but food wise its best to go out locally.

    Fabulous Tour!!
Two of us took a private tour to St Hilarion, Kyrenia castle and ship museum, then finally Bellapais Monastery, all in northern Cyprus. It was amazing, our tour guide Cemal was lovely and shared the fascinating history with us along the way, and the lunch was delicious! Would definitely recommend!

A place to see, attitude to avoid.
Amazing views,’poor tourism attitude. The guy in the cafeteria locked the viewing balconies because no one is spending money. The government builds the facilities and he owns the rights to do as he likes. And we wonder why we don’t get tourists in the north.

An impressive place, with wonderful views and immerse yourself in the history, and it gets even better.
Do whatever you can to get to the top, you'll be glad you did in the long run

The castle is nice but there's no path to the very top, at least it's not marked clearly. But the views are terrific anyway. The admission is EUR 3 and they accept euros.

The castle is amazing- all reviews describe it …
The information we would have liked prior and didn’t have: the road to the castle is through a military area. There is a gate, manned by a soldier opening at 8 am.
BUT, when you drive up ( 5min) the castle only opens at 9am. We spent one hour waiting because the internet info let us believe that the castle would open at 8am.
Rubbish, mainly plastic bottles, distract from an otherwise stunning experience.

We climbed half way, some of the steps a bit dodgy, so be careful. Fantastic layout of a build. We had a guide so he told us some of the history. Great views.

Lots of Rubbish.
All over the ground there is rubbish. Under bushes rubbish, inside the water cisterns (water pools) rubbish. The main rubbish has lots and lots of plastic water bottles on the ground. The cisterns near the top part of the castle are a floating sea of plastic bottles, it is disgusting. There are a very few bins (tiny) near entrance and lower levels. Then in the rest of the castle, no bins. It really detracts from the experience.
Additionally,
1) The cafe in the middle of the castle had a fire and is closed - they should tell people before they enter. As you cannot get drinks on a hot day.
2) The summit of the castle / mountain is closed - has chains across steps. They should tell people before they enter as it decreases the experience.
3) When I went 4 years ago there were nice exhibits with information, models in some of the rooms in the middle of the castle. These are mostly misssing, or destroyed. Or in locked rooms covered with pigeon droppings.
4) There are no toilets in the castle - they should tell people before they enter. The only toilets are in the car park and guarded. No prices displayed, the toilet guardian may be making up the entrance price.

This castle is meant to be one of the "highlights" of North Cyprus for tourists. A great shame it is being run so poorly and with zero care.

Somehow our 2 and 3-year olds willingly walked up the whole way to the top as they love steps. Had to carry the 2-year-old down in the sling. They absolutely loved it and so did we!
