- aimeemrobertHouston, Texas89 contributionsMust see - gives an encompassing beautiful view of the cityThis walking path gives the best encompassing views of the valley and city. Really beautiful and easily walkable. We walked along this path as part of a walking tour, though this was part of the places we planned to visit. I was concerned that the balcony walk might be dangerously close to the edge or full of uneven steps requiring tennis shoes, but neither were the case. It’s a gently sloping sidewalk with a chest high wall, easy for anyone to walk. My 7 year old son easily did this walk to see beautiful views of the city. This is a must see when visiting Luxembourg.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 April 2024

It's very picturesque. But it takes a while to explore. Probably a whole day to walk all the paths.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 28 August 2024

The Corniche lives up to its reputation with wonderful views in a pleasant walk. The most was very low on the day I visited which added to the enjoyment. I recommend you also explore the nearby Saint Michael’s Church and the historic Bock.

Nice walkway on top of the escarpment, with great views out over the gorge, with ruins, sweeping stone railroad bridge, and quaint old city houses and buildings below. Very pleasant! It's all very compact, so easy to take it all in. The only thing I would have liked would have been better signage along the way.

This is frequently called one of Europe’s beautiful balconies. The view is from the ramparts built by the French and Spanish back in the 17th century. From this walkway, we had great views of the old city. When we visited, people wanted to take photos or selfies, so we patiently waited our turn. It’s definitely a photo opportunity.

Despite the rain, the walk is enjoyable and for those who have not studied anything about the city, a secret is revealed... how nature has influenced the architectural choices and in expert hands has become a strong point. Wonderful mix of historical and modern. Beautiful views...

One of the things you absolutely must do during a stay in Luxembourg City.
Walk from the top of the city which allows you to see truly panoramic views of the Grund (the lower city).
It is considered "the most beautiful balcony in Europe", but for us Bergamo residents there is no comparison with our Walls of Upper Bergamo!

If you want some amazing photos with a picturesque European view, then this is where you need to be while in Luxembourg. It’s great for walking along the cobblestone streets of Old Town. Be sure to check out all of the amazing, historic old buildings. This area is located near the city center. Some of the better views are from a balcony overlooking this area. I was told that theirs a lift that can get you down to the river if you’re not wanting/able to walk, but I never used it. From higher vantage point, you can spot a Fortress nearby. I’ll have to check it out on a return visit if it’s tourist friendly.

A stroll around Luxembourg's valley offers an unparalleled scenery in Europe. Chemin de la Corniche is atop a nicely preserved area of historic houses and flowing stream. It is a pleasant, mostly flat walk with rewarding views all along the way. No doubt it receives UNESCO recognition.

I went and came back in the day, the first thing I did was go to the tourist office, where I was given a map and tour to do on foot through Luxembourg, I loved it!!! I was impressed by the difference in height between one part of the city and the other, luckily, I had been told of the elevators, so it was very easy, go from one part to the other, the Corniche road or the balcony, divine!!!

Which bus or tram to take to reach the city center once I arrive to the central station? Thanks
Written 3 June 2022
There are several buses that, from the central station, take you to the center. In particular 4 - 13 - 14 - 18 - 19. The closest stop to the center is "Center, F.D. Roosevelt" a few minutes walk from the historic center. The journey takes 10 minutes in total. Alternatively, you can take the T1 tram (for a matter of frequency of passage I preferred to use the bus)

Either in Clausen or Pfadfenthal. Both let you discover the old town of Luxemburg City and will invite you to a pleasant walk up to the corniche.

I am in an electric wheelchair, that can handle cobble stone and steep, but not stairs. Would I be able to do this?
Written 11 January 2019
Hi. There are lots of stairs at various parts however you could do the trail in reverse? So start at the elevator which takes you into the valley which can be explored without any stairs and then use the main road back up to make it back to the top? There are some parts which climb up onto the old ramparts which would be inaccessible but overall you should still be able to see the key points of interest and get some great photos! Enjoy

Is the train station in town? We'll be coming in from Paris. Thanks for the info.
Written 2 August 2016
Yes, the train station is very close to the city centre. To reach the centre or any other quarters, you can take a bus or a taxi from the train station to any destination. If you're travelling light and the weather isn't rainy, you may just walk a 10 minute walk, and have a look at the ground-city, that looks great from our beautiful bridges, which link the train station district to the city centre. Have a fun stay in Luxembourg!
