- Ashley RWoking, United Kingdom95 contributionsIt’s a maze! Great placeAnother freebee thing to do in Luxembourg City. Absolutely incredible building built into the rock of the city. 7/8 floors split across 2 buildings. Interesting mixture of national museum stuff, art and furniture. We really enjoyed it. Well worth a lookVisited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 January 2023
- T-SGlobetrottersPreston, United Kingdom2,905 contributionsWell curated museumWe visited mainly for the history related exhibits which are arranged below ground level. The deeper you go, the further back in history the exhibits take you. This is a very impressive building particularly because it is hewn out of the rock face. Highlight of the extensive Roman section is a well preserved mosaic floor featuring the muses believed to date from about 240 AD. On the lowest floors, bronze age dwellings take you back to 12,000 years BC. There is so much to see here it is possible to spend upwards of half a day. Everything is very well curated and presented. History exhibition is free, there are other art related areas where a ticket is required.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 June 2023

Right at the capital's historic downtown, it is a large place to understand the country from prehistory to contemporary development. More recent topics like household appliances and home design in the past decades are also covered. Visitors will have their own knowledge of the Luxembourgish way. - soinic2,011 contributionsMosaic of Vichten = long time favorite 🤗The mnha changed its name and is now called "mnaha" (musée national d'archéologie, histoire et art). Entry to permanent collection is free. You could spend days visiting the exceptional and very interesting collections. Check the museums website (English, French, German) and "prepare" your visit. My favorite to visit and revist is the mosaic of Vichten showing the 9 muses (daughters of Zeus). Take the elevator to -2, best spot for enjoying and taking a picture of the mosaic which was discovered in Lux./Vichten and restored to its old beauty. The informations are almost "French only", but you can still enjoy a great, memorable visit ... for free.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 August 2023

We were initially going to just visit the free part of the museum but changed our minds when we saw some things of interest on the 4th floor. The €7 charge was a bit high IMO as there wasn’t that much to see in the paid areas. We liked the art in the free areas the best. The high tech display in the one room, which shows interviews with people and provides information on some of the artwork, is particularly interesting and impressive.

The entrance to the museum was free except for special displays. The collection is decent, covering a wide variety of areas. The collection of coins was the highlight. Recommend for 1 hour stop.

There is alot in the museum and it is free apart from the exhibitions. It was hard to navigate around and the lift had a mind of its own. Lots to see you will need at least 4 hrs. Unfortunately the cafe was not open so we went across the road and got a lovely coffee for on 1:50Euros

Everything is in French! If you read the language, it will help. There are english translation books on some floors but not all. It was a free entry. I recommend this visit.

It was fun to see all the history elements of the surrounding area. However everything was only in French. There is an audiotour available (for a small fee) and there are translation books on every level. We walked around and just looked at the objects.
With the Luxembourg card we were able to visit the other exhibitions which were very pretty and interesting.

Ciao a tutti, volevo sapere se era possibile accedere al museo anche per 2 minori (16 e 17 anni) non accompagnati.
Se avete anche consigli su cos'altro visitare, sarò felice di riceverli.
