We were on guided tour in rain at the old town, which is very interesting place. Tinganes is the historic location of the Faroese landsstýri (government), and is a part of Tórshavn. The name means "parliament jetty" or "parliament point" in Faroese. The parliament met...More

This is the old town in Thorshavn. It has nice quaint houses where people still live. The roads are narrow and winding and can be difficult to walk sometimes. We got a guided tour here and it was very educational!

Tiny buildings with grass roofs and proper old fashioned foot paths. Also provides interesting pathway to the old harbour. Lush

Tinganes is situated right in the centre of Torshavn, a pleasant stroll just off the busier (though doubtful if anything could be called busy or busier here!) parts of this tiny capital, like a small town within an already small capital town, yet home to...More

Good to walk if you want to look at the old historical buildings and experience ancient time spirit. Simple and nice design, excellent conditions of the historical buildings. Black red and white, very nice!

Nice place with spirit of history. I like such buildings and streets. If you have enough time for this city, I can recommend this place for visiting.

Tinganes, in Tørshavn, is a neighborhood close to the port very cute with many old typical houses of Faroe Island! There are no streets or numbers on houses! Amazing!

Beautiful old part of Torshavn. Very picturesque. People live there or go to work there. Governement offices for Faroes, and from ab. year 1000 the place where leading Faroese people came together once a year to solve problems and make common decisions.

A gorgeous town worth a return visit. We were on a cruise which called in so only had a few hours but were so thrilled with this place that we are booking a flight to stay longer.

I am writing about visitors' experience of the Viking heritage of the north Atlantic islands . Is anyone able to tell me how they were affected by visiting the Faroes? Did it open your eyes to anything you hadn't appreciated before - especially about the Vikings, their way of life and about present Faroese culture? Many thanks. Ian (A mature university student)
