Description:

The Saluting Battery is one of Malta's most vibrant visitor attractions...

The Saluting Battery is one of Malta's most vibrant visitor attractions where history is brought to life daily! Located high along Valletta's eastern historic ramparts it enjoys unrivalled spectacular views of the Grand Harbour and its surrounding fortified towns. It is also perhaps the oldest saluting battery still in operation anywhere in the world. Here one can see a fully restored gun powder magazine, an artillery side-arm store, a handsome collection of original muzzle-loading artillery , ammunition and equipment and get a close-look at the saluting guns. The battery is equipped with audio-guides but guided torus in English are also available three times a day at 11.00, 12.30 And 15.00Hrs.

This is rather good fun and I'm glad we got to see it. I've never seen cannons being let off before and it was very loud! We also visited the museum at the site. If you are there to watch the cannons go into the museum before and you can get an explanation of what's going on as it happens... More

The iconic stop-off and not far from the main bus-terminus, also with a free lift to the waterfront if you're visiting by Cruise Ship. It's a vestige of the rather substantial military history and connections, so the ceremony has its pride of place; but it is also the very best place to overlook Grand Harbour and for the best Selfie... We really enjoyed this. Started with the midday gun being fired and then we went down to the level of the cannons to hear about how cannons are fired. The tour was short but interesting but you then needed to spend time looking at the artefacts and displays to learn more. The staff were chatty and friendly The view from... More

If you are visiting Valletta you have to go and see this. It is free if and make sure you go about 30mins before it starts to get a good place to stand. The gun is fired at Noon and 4pm.

We visited this place around noon and it has one of the best view points in Valletta. So there is regular silent salute offered to warriors at the own Malta manner. So this ritual is done once everyday and it's totally worth watching it throughout. It extends for about 20 minutes and they have siren firing along with it.

I enjoy watching this although managed to miss the gun being fired at 12 noon. Took these pictures instead but I do like going. Been going for about 15 odd years or so. I think. 😁😁

Nice to witness the ongoing "tradition" to shoot with a cannon at noon. But it's just 1 shot and that's about it...

I really recommend Paying the 3 euro to get down and right next to the canons. The overlook upstairs tends to get a bit crowded but much more room downstairs and closer if you want to take any pictures. Also included is a small tour after canon has been fired, well worth your time. Go see it. Fires at 12... More

Dignified and delivered with great plomb. I couldn't believe how loud the canon shot was which added to the sense of occasion. A very respectful moment which was appreciated by all that witnessed it.
