As you walk in Valletta on the Republic street , you shall this church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi . Entrance is free of charge , however donations are always welcome.
It was build between 1598 and 1607 - so it is standing there for several hundred years.
It is interesting to visit, even if you are not a catholic , or a religious person - since paintings of Mattia Preti are decorating the church - amongst other.
Overall a very interesting church - not as famous as other churches in Valletta, but nonetheless it is worth 30 minutes of your time for a quick visit and some pictures.

St. Francis' Church in Valletta is another of so many beautiful churches in Malta. Each church could take an hour or more to enjoy, longer in prayer, and just a few moments in time to ponder Christ Jesus our Lord.
Four photos attached as an example of this remarkable church.

Not an official visit as such but the door was open and we took a look inside. Only stayed for a couple of minutes but it was beautiful inside. An unexpected bonus .

Non-description from outside but a beautiful blue ornate cathedral inside. It was always open when we walked by as we were staying a few doors down at Donus Zomitello which is THE hotel to stay at on Malta. Right next store to St Francis Cathedral is a hole in the wall breakfast lunch place called St Francis cafeteria. We had breakfast there every morning it was soooo good! Authentic and fresh! We had pastizzi every morning filled with peas and cheese. We also had eclairs and cream filled cherry bars and coffee. The breakfast for two was 4.40 euros!! This is including bottle water and coffee!! No joke!! We kept thinking he was adding it wrong. You can sit outside. Only three little tables where you hear the locals come by and chat with owner every morning. Great experience if you want to integrate into the true Malta experience.

Located on the main street in Valetta, the church is very easy to find and is worth the effort. It contains a beautiful altar and an amazing painted arched ceiling and dome.

I really don't like Baroque but this was not as "in your face" as St. John's and had some magnificent wooden sculptures and chapels.....Definitely worth the visit.....We were lucky....It was open as we wandered by.

St Francis’ Church in Valletta is to be found on the main drag near the city gates. It is truly a beautiful church, serene, holy and peaceful. It’s open throughout the day and it’s well worth a visit.

One of the beautiful lesser seen churches in Valletta is the Franciscan, St Francis of Assisi Church, built 1609 with marvellous painting and excellent features. It is free to enter and have a look.

Love the architecture of old churches, unfortunately it was not open for viewing, otherwise I would've gone in. It was rebuilt in the 1600's and has been extended since.
