Ta' Kola Windmill in Xaghra, Gozo, is one of the few surviving windmills on the Maltese Islands dating back to the Knights' Period. Its origins go back to 1725 during the magistracy of Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena (1722-36).

Nowadays, the windmill houses one of the largest known collections of tools, some of which were manufactured by the last miller who lived inside the mill. The site offers a glimpse into the traditional rural life of the locals during the past centuries.

30 euros bought us a family ticket to see this and the ggantija temples round the corner, and we considered the expense worthwhile. Its a nice windmill, (not that we have much experience of them) but my husband especially enjoyed it, looking at the tools etc. My daughter and I loved seeing the living areas and reading about the last... If you have a little extra time when visiting the Ġgantija temple ruins then you might think about spending 15-20 mins taking a look at this historic old windmill. It's free if you use your Heritage Malta pass (highly recommended).

Is great to see all the tools and the story of the last miller, and the restoration, specially the engine of the windmill is really nice, I only missed a show of how it works. Is the second time that I go close to the last addmission time but they always let us go in for a quick look

The windmill is conveniently situated by the Ggantija temples and is worth a visit. It would be even more worthwhile if the rather random collection of well-preserved old tools and equipment was adequately labelled. There's plenty of information about Maltese agriculture and similarities and differences between it and farming pracrises in other Mediterranean island communities. The miller's quarters were quite... More

This windmill is in excellent condition and quite a museum. It is quite a steep climb up narrow steps to the top of the mill but worthwhile iif you are fit.

This is included in your €9 entry fee to the Ggantija site and is well worth a visit. Bread was a very important part of the Maltese diet and the self-guided tour of the oldest example of a working windmill is fascinating. The mill was built in 1725 and you can see how the miller both lived AND worked in... More

This windmill contains many interesting artefacts - mostly related to milling but also more general culture. Well worthwhile popping in
