A very rare site and unique experience
A rare site and unique experience. The parking lot is right off the highway. You can walk to the plane, about 2.5 miles each way, which is free. There is also a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes each way and costs 2,900 krona (about $21 U.S.) for the round trip. It’s a bit of a bumpy ride, but we found it to be well worth the cost, as it was much faster than walking, and there is nothing especially scenic or special about the walk. It’s just 2.5 miles along a flat rock/sand surface. We didn’t buy our tickets in advance. We simply showed up and bought tickets on the shuttle, and there were plenty of seats for everyone.

    Take the shuttle
I would do this again but ONLY if the shuttle is running. The shuttle stops running at 17:00. The walk is long and bumpy on a gravel path, making the walk more difficult than it appears. It’s least a 2 hour hike round trip from the parking lot without much to see on the way. Not a great hike but an interesting site.

Great place to visit but shame about the ignorant tourists!
I have rated this as Very good and not Excellent purely due to the ignorant tourists who were climbing all over the plane and didn't move to let others take photos without them in it. Such a shame. We walked from the car park, took us 40 mins but we do walk quickly - we got the shuttle back for 2000 isk each. Its 3000 isk each return.

We enjoyed the challenge of the walk both ways
Large car park with Parka app payment. We walked both ways but there is a 4x4 shuttle bus. Took us 45 minutes each way for the 2 x 3.5km walks there and back. Walk out seemed longer with the plane visible only at the end of the walk, walk back better with mountain views. Very windy and exposed obvious marked trackway with sideways rain at times. Spent about 15 minutes at the wreck. The trick is to try and get photos of the plane without other people sheltering in it...Great to get out and have a brisk walk.

Waste of time .
The bus charges 3000 ISK tor a return with a stay of 30 min. The ride is bumpy .
It’s just a body of plane which is out there .
Beware . It’s a tourist trap.
What can you do there .. nothing ..
Just take pic of a plane .

An interesting site and a very scenic walk - however, swamped by disrespectful tourists climbing all over the plane and jumping on the wing etc.

Signs say it takes 4 hours to walk there and back, however it only takes about 1hr 30

The walk is way to long for small children. It was very windy and almost boring once you get there. Disappointment unfortunately but a lot of people were parking and walking. Takes several hours so take water and snacks.

I visited on a really windy and wet day. Take the bus DO NOT walk. On the bus it’s about 10 min bumpy lumpy drive each way and the driver is very entertaining. It was so windy I literally hopped off the bus took photos for 4-5 mins and hopped back on and was grateful that he waited because it was freezing and the idea of huddling in the wreck for 25 mins did not compute. We passed many poor sodden hypothermic souls who had opted to walk. Big mistake. Huge

Parked up and didn’t realise it was a 3.5km walk along a gravel track to the beach to see the plane. There is a bus available but I think it worked out to about £10 per person for a short trip! Long walk down to see just the plane wreck on the beach. It’s okay but nothing particularly special. Long walk back! Can be quite windy too across the vast expanse of land.

The dust was really bad on the monotonous walk - expect wind, the terrain is very open and exposed. The full length of our legs got caked with the dry volcanic dust. Bring a bandana to cover your mouth /nose so you’re not inhaling the dust as well. The shuttle passed us several times kicking up more dust. The walk is flat and easy, you don’t nred the shuttle.
The walk gets more interesting as you near the wreck and are closer to the shoreline. The wreck is really cool! Eerie looking. Unfortunately, a lot of ignorant tourists were ignoring the signs not to climb on the wreckas it is fragile. We liked the wreck a lot more than the walk. Glad we saw it but would not go again, lol.
