We came here as part of a tour on a gorgeous sunny day that clouded over when we got here. Even on a nice day the waves were impressively big and powerful. Basalt columns were imposing and beautiful and the black sand is so black (sounds obvious I know). Well worth a stop - but bring windproof clothing!

We visited in March and the ocean was turbulent with the waves crashing into the surf. Beautiful setting with black sand and a huge wall of residual old volcano rock

The Black Sand Beach was one of my highlight places of all of our natural stops during our visit to Iceland. The waves were high and strong, the sand was beautiful, and the columns made an amazing photo backdrop. It really seemed like an adult playground. It was pretty cold and windy when we were there, but we still had... More

Nice place, recommend even in winter. You will probably will spend just an hour there if you are not coming for sun bathing. The buses stop here, and I mean the tourist ones.

We were here in March with snow on the beach. The black and White contrast is so strong and surreal you just have no reference

Reynisfjara (black sands beach) has amazing basalt cliffs with basalt columns. On the cliffs above the beach lots of sea birds, including puffins, nest. There are great views to the arch at Dyrholaey. Finally a warning - I grew up in Cornwall, so I have surfed and seen lots of Atlantic storms but the sea here is very rough, there... More

When we arrived, it was raining and the ocean was fierce. The columns looked so beautiful, wearing the color black that day. I think the columns normally have a gray look to them, when it's dry out. The black sand beach is a must to visit. The contrast of the black sand, with the strong waves is stunning. The wind... More

Unique beach and worth to see. The black sand is very unique. Also interesting nature formations located on site. Gigantic waves are also interesting to see. Great location for taking landscape photographs. There were quite a lot of people but because it's such a wide area it didn't matter that much. Some facilities exist. The drive from the main road... Vik is a charming little town off the Ring Road on the southern coast, and the main attraction is the Black Sand Beach. The day we went was rainy and windy, but it was still completely awesome. The waves were huge, and the mist around the bay was stunning. So glad we got the chance to see it!
