Our November visit to Vik in Iceland was not beach weather but we could appreciate the beauty of the cliffs and rock formations and the odd, black sand beach. We walked through a hailstorm as the black beach was speckled with tiny white chunks of...More

In my excitement at arriving (it is a 2 1/2 hr drive from Reykjavik) and seeing threatening clouds I quickly dashed down to the black sand beach near the coffee shop. I was the only person there. It was stunning - and as I took...More

The basalt columns and lava caves at this beautiful beach surrounded by the wild ocean used to be a mystic and special place that we were looking forward to return to at the very end of October 2017. What a shock to see that it...More

It was so beautiful, the black sand and white foam of the waves such a nice contrast from each other. There were a ton of people here. It made taking any pictures with out anyone in it very difficult.

We booked a tour through Gray Line out of Reykjavik and thus is one of the stops I was looking forward to. If it's on your bucket list you won't be disappointed. The town is near by as well to get a bit to eat.

I went to run at the beach around 09am, when the sun was still rising in November... temperature was right above 0, but the view was well worth it to have freezing hands for the pictures!! It is a nice walking from Vik, there was...More

We were lucky enough to visit during the Deep Low at the beginning of November :-) Despite the hurricane-force winds and driving rain, the beach was beautiful - and believe it or not, pretty deserted. We grabbed a coffee and croissant at the little café...More

Black beach. Very cool actually. Fine for a novelty value visit and the take some snaps, but i wouldnt budget a lot of time here. Reaching here for sunset is a great idea, with stunning views out to sea.

...except by the views. Amazing natural basalt cliffs tower over head. Huge waves crashing on the black sand beach. An experience like nothing else in Iceland.

My wife and I took some from the beach. I saw no signs restricting us from doing so. We put them in our carry on and security didn't say a word when going through the x-ray.

I'm not sure it really will be a problem if you don't go too far near the water (and really there is much more to see directly at the cliffs.) After a quick google search I found a forecast (just google 'tide times vík', I... More
