Great place to spend several hours for people of all ages, walking the beach or jumping from one column to the next. Another set of Game of Thrones, Bollywood videos (e.g. Gerua) and I think also featured in Justin Bieber's I'll show you. Again annoyingly...More

Black sand and basalt columns and large stone artifacts in the water. Looks like from another planet. You park and walk for 2 minutes to get to the beach. Extraordinary views, unique to Iceland. Pretty long beach. We had a bright and Sunny day, so...More

Beautiful beach. The basalt columns, black sand and sound made by rolling pebbles when waves come ashore make the atmosphere here unique. Of course water is too cold for a dip. Good parking and easy approach by car.

This is an amazing spot, not to be missed when visiting the south coast of Iceland. The basalt columns, the black sand, monster waves and wind all combine to make it an amazing site. Make sure to climb the basalt columns (not too high) for...More

This was a beautiful place to visit. However, due to the rocks falling off the cliffs and the waves coming right up to the rocks they have blocked it off and you cannot go down to the water. So only views from the top. But...More

We traveled to Vik specifically to see the Black Sand Beach and basalt columns and it was well-worth the trip. There is parking, a small cafe, and a WC (at a small cost). The beach and columns are beautiful and we were able to see...More

This black sand beach was nothing like me and my family have ever seen. Vik is about 186 km from Reykjavik. Definitely drivable in a day. The beaches are black because of the volcanic ash. At Reynisfjara Beach there is a cave which is decorated...More

The basalt rockformations at Black Sand beach are very picturesque, and it's nice to walk along the beach. Carefull with the tides though, we've read that some people got swept into sea when the tides change

This beach is beautiful. It's not something you see everyday, it's typical Iceland - one unforgettable sight after another. Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped here randomly on the way to the glaciers and are so glad we did. The black beach and the "other side" of the Giant's causeway is unique and impressive!

I'm not sure it really will be a problem if you don't go too far near the water (and really there is much more to see directly at the cliffs.) After a quick google search I found a forecast (just google 'tide times vík', I... More

We were there in early September 2016 and seeing the northern lights was a bit 'hit and miss'. In the end we were lucky. I see that another contributor has suggested using Google maps to measure distance. That's a good idea... More

Hi, Yes a small car would be ok. The roads are very good and easy to drive. You wont have any problems. There is a parking area on the beach, you need to park your car there and then walk to the beach which is about 2... More
