Our tour guide brought us here and offered snacks and Icelandic drinks. It was super windy up top, so we didn't stay long. However, the views are incredible. Even driving up, I was transfixed. We stopped at a spot nearby where you can view puffins, and we were very fortunate to see a ton of them! I highly recommend...especially if you bring a binocular.

We walked here from the harbor. It was a long hike, but well worth it. The weather was clear, so we got to get a glimpse of Surtsey, one of Mother Earth's latest real estate additions, in the distance.
There is a small shelter on the west side of Storhöfdi where you are protected from the winds and where you can watch the puffins fly in and out of their nests on the mountain side.
It is very windy, so dress accordingly. Allegedly, this is the windiest spot in all of Europe.

When we arrived on Vestmannaeyjar we drove directly to the south of the island to try to view the puffins for which this area is renowned. We made for the cape called Storhofdi. We parked at the upper car park where there was a turning circle. We followed a foot path which we thought would take us to the bird hide, following markers with yellow tops. Unfortunately, this took us all the way round the cape. Although this was an attractive hike, it wasn’t what we intended to do. We consulted Google maps which helpfully showed us the route to the hide. We found another path leading down hill which eventually brought us to the bird hide. We sat outside the hide on tussocks, watching the comings and goings of the puffins. It was very rewarding to finally capture some images of the birds. We discovered that there was a car park situated much closer to the hide. This car park is on a left hand corner and can accommodate about 10 cars. There is a gate and the hide is maybe 100 metres on just over the brow of the hill.

The southern tip of the island is easy to find, and there is a green puffin hide where you can go and watch the puffins along the cliffs. We had great weather and went in the morning, so the puffins had not left to go hunting yet. We had a great time!

The nature and the island can be viewed from a fantastic spot here. Amazing scenary and viewing facility to observe the puffins in their natural habitat without disturbing them.

We explored all of Heimaey and really enjoyed the southern tip most. The weather station here at Stórhöfði was so deserted and beautiful, but most of all windy! No other cars, no people, just a small group of sheep and us. We wandered all around but not close to the edge as the winds were 60 mph and up!

Didn't look for puffins as we avoided the edges and it was mid September so they were likely gone already

We went to the top, to the weather station, and then perched ourselves on the hillside to watch for puffins. We were not disappointed! If you are quick on the shutter, you can get photos of them in flight.

Yes, this place is considered to be the windiest point in Iceland. You can literally feel that.

Going from the lighthouse to the end of the peak, you will come to a point where there will no one but a route going till the end of the hill. Follow that and you will reach a point where there is pin-drop silence. You can listen to the waves hitting the rocks kilometres away from you.

According to me it is the most peaceful and quiet point in Iceland.

You can see Puffins flying all about the Harbor and above the Golf Course area but it's worth a hike for the view.

Definitely worth the journey to this headland. From the old lighthouse you get great views over to the mainland and well as to the other smaller islands. Halfway up you can go to the puffin observatory - bring binoculars - where you can see many of the birds and their antics.
