Great place to experience Icelandic pool culture
These baths were a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We were keen to try a proper Icelandic bath rather than the touristy spas. Loved it so much we went three times during our 4 day stay. Very clean and the staff will explain where to take your shoes off and the whole expectation around showering before putting your swim suit on. If you are nervous about the whole nudity thing, don't be (I'm British so it's not something we like to do!). There is a private shower stall if you feel really uncomfortable but as everyone else is naked I just got on with it. There are multiple hot tubs (including two on the roof), a big swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room and a plunge pool. Cost about £7 to visit compared to £80 for the Sky lagoon. Locals were really friendly and we met some lovely people. It was -6°c when we were there and sitting in a hot pool in the dark was just magical and lovely after a day sightseeing.

Swimming pool - a must do in Reykjavik
You must visit this pool whilst you are in Reykjavik - get a card to save money and get in every day as the Icelandics do. Crystal clear water, amazing hot pots and definitely get your head under in the cold pool. We loved it here and saves you a fortune compared to the classic lagoons tourists visit. A must do!

    Awesome Hot Tubs!
Arguably the best experience in Reykjavik! Do what the Icelanders do! Only £7 and a wonderful variety of pools, spa’s,saunas and hot tubs. Spend a couple of hours just chilling out and come away feeling like a new person, better than the over crowded lagoons!

Go here rather than expensive lagoon experience
Great for the geothermal bathing experience. Go here rather than any of the costly lagoon experiences!!!!Open air pools and hot tubs lovely and warm. Full of locals.Be aware that it’s customary to shower naked before getting costume on. Only people embarrassed by this are the tourists.

    City centre plunge
We visited one evening during our city stay. The receptionist took time to explain where the changing rooms were and where I could find my husband once we were ready. The original building and 2 small hot pools are in a beautiful 1930s building- a great piece of local history . There is also a modern pool area with different options for swimming and enjoying the thermal pools.

Fun evening activity in Reykjavik that doesn’t cost the earth
Fantastic fun. We went in the evening and it was lovely. Busy but good. Hot tubs, outside swimming pool and plunge pool. Don’t accidentally miss the roof top hot tubs. You go up the stairs opposite the men’s changing. You can hire towels if you need to.

    Great local baths
We went at night time and it was a lovely experience. Once you get your head around naked showering before you go in. The walk in your swimsuit is rather cold but worth it when you get in the geothermal pools. There is a swimming pool, and 2 hot tubs, and then 2 hot tubs on the roof. A great experience, full of locals, and loads cheaper than the well known places.

Great local place, much cheaper than blue lagoon !
Great place. Big complex with indoor and outdoor pools, as well as 3 outdoor hot tubs, an out door cold dipping pool and a splash pool for kids. Saw a steam room, sauna out of action for the foreseeable. Bargain at about £7.50 pp excluding towel hire. Did find the instructions a bit confusing as changing rooms not as strict in uk. But when I got down it was obvious where to leave shoes/ change/ shower. A good hair drying station too for when leaving. Shower gel provided in showers.

    Well worth a visit
Thermal baths were worth visiting. Spent an hour experiencing the different areas. Cold plunge pool, outdoor and indoor swimming pool to do lengths in the given lanes. Also large outdoor jacuzzi 39°C plus pods upstairs 39°C and 42°C. Very reasonable

Most locals living downtown would rather do the extra mile and enjoy the classic vesturbæjarlaug than the old sundhöll. Although they renovated it recently, nothing great was achieved. The premises are not well designed as a man, you will end up having to walk down flights of stairs and along corridors to reach the outside pool, which is fairly dangerous when you're wet and barefoot.
No view in the pools and an often crowded shower are the nails in the coffin of this pool. Trust me, you don't wanna wait naked for a shower to get vacant whenever you wanna relax to the pool. Go to vesturbæjarlaug.

This place was a great find, we were going to the lagoon in a few days so didn't really want to spend £70+ each on another lagoon style place.
Instead we found this lovely local swimming pool complex with sauna, steam rooms, 39c and 42c baths, a cold plunge pool, jacuzzi and indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

We spend 90 minutes here for approximately £8 each and left feeling calm and relaxed.

Highly recommend trying this place out, full of locals which shows how good it is.

A tip though, be prepared as you have to shower naked to be allowed in the pool and there is not much privacy

After a day touring or simply to have an afternoon of relaxation this bath very close to the city centre is a great spot.
Very clean with different water temperatures pool.
Shows the sign of the time but still doing a perfect job.
And if you have a city card, entry is included with it.

The baths have been re-furbished since we last visited and we were really impressed. There's a choice of lots of outdoor hot tubs as well as an outdoor and indoor pool. We went on our first evening as our Northern Lights tour was cancelled. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day travelling. The locker rooms are great with nice big lockers. There's a shelf for your boots so you don't need to leave them on the rack outside. I think you need a padlock for the ones in the male changing room but the female ones don't need a padlock or a coin. Definitely a must do activity if you're staying in Reykjavik. We went to the Blue Lagoon on our last evening and soaking outside in hot water was a great way to start and end our trip.

My last day in Reykjavik included a trip to the Sundhollen Thermal Pools. Just a few minutes' walk from our accommodation, very conveniently located near the old Town, it cost 1210 krona to enter. It will be extra if you need to rent a towel or swimsuit.
Another benefit of Sundhollen is that you don't need to book - you can just show up and stay for as long as you like.
There is an indoor pool ( not open at the time of my visit), an outdoor pool, a shallow kiddie pool ( where I spent most of my time as it was nice to just float around, as did other adults), a large jacuzzi /hotpot, a chilly pool. Have a wonder across to the other side and up the stairs. This is where the indoor pool entrance is, in addition to a sauna and two more hotpots.
The facilities are sufficient for showering. Lockers are provided as well. There is also a drinking fountain outside.
I would highly recommend Sundhollen, whether you want to relax or be social. There was a mix of families, solo visitors, groups of friends, and couples.

Great warm baths. It was Easter Friday so the place was full and it opened later in the afternoon because of Easter. As a Finn, I loved the Finnish Sauna that they had. Too bad it was so small that only 2-3 people can fit in there at the same time so it was all the time also full. Otherwise a great experience, I just chose a bad day.

I was so impressed by this well-used facility that I visited twice in my stay. For a fraction over ISK 1000 you got unlimited access to an indoor pool, outdoor pool, small sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool and 4 hot pots (some with jacuzzi jets). Feels surreal sitting outside during a hail storm in a tank of 42 degree geo-thermal water!!
The changing room is immaculate due to the way it is used. Remove footwear before entering. Strip off and place everything in the locker except your towel and bather. Go to the shower area, place your towel in the rack and wash yourself head to toe with complimentary shower gel and shower off. Place on your bather and enter the baths. When you exit, shower again and get completely dry in the shower area before returning to your locker to dress. Carry your footwear out and place it on outside of the changing room. Everyone follows the rules and maintains a very clean environment.

I was staying on this side of town during my weeklong vacation, and had heard about the local swimming pools being a “must visit”. I was happy to visit here one evening around 6pm - it was full and bustling with locals.
It was definitely a unique and interesting culture difference - be prepared for this - but overall friendly, and a good experience. I chatted with locals in the relaxing pools, which eased some of my trepidation.
There are several different areas to enjoy, pools of different temperatures including a hot tub, and a sauna.
Definitely a wonderful, relaxing time and something visitors should experience!!

Adults and teens all loved Sundhollin. We were lucky enough to be there while snowflakes fell around us and fireworks were set off (not there, somewhere in Reykjavik, but close enough that we could see them). The price is very reasonable. Though we did not need to use this, both bathing suits and towels can be rented. Lockers (free) available in locker rooms. Very "local" experience instead of the higher priced touristy baths. We were in Reykjavik for 4 days and went twice.

The public baths were a great deal of fun and a terrific way to see an authentic version of an important aspect of Icelandic culture. We spent two hours and just had a terrific time and enjoyed each of the pools, hot tubs, and sauna. The cleanliness was astounding and what a great experience to be such a low chlorinated winter pool experience. Take the hygiene requirements seriously when preparing in the lockerrooms because the result was worth the effort.
