Let me start by saying that I got the 24-hour Reykjavik City Card and absolutely got my money's worth for it. Because of that, I got into the National Museum for free. I'm not a huge history buff, but I do have an appreciation for...More

I wasn't that taken by the museum. I felt with the wealth of information and artifacts they had they could've made it a lot more interesting and interactive, and also better set out chronologically. If you just want to walk around looking at artifacts, with...More

The main floor covers the history of Iceland's discovery and early settlement with outstanding exhibits and narrative displays. We spent about an hour and a half in this section then breezed through the rest. Easy to walk to from anywhere downtown.

What a great place. Plenty to absorb. History abounds. They say the walk around takes three hours but you can spend much more time depending on how much you want to learn.

This museum building was designed with a dome to cover the huge water tanks high above the city, and within the walls, an interesting museum has been created. It is possible to climb to the top to have a panoramic view of the city.

This museum is friendly, good value and very informative, offering a broad outline of Iceland's history from when people first settled on the island. There is a variety of fascinating displays such as skeletons and Viking weaponry. The only improvement would be for more in-depth...More

Very informative history museum about Iceland. Interactive, but also very rich in information and exhibits, the National Museum will leave a great impression on both those really fond of history, and those just curious about certain aspects. The building is very modern and well-maintained and...More

This museum is well laid out and was very informative. One could take the better part of a day or an hour viewing the displays. A nice history of Iceland and people!

Hi, clearly this depends on a variety of factors (interest, knowledge, with kids..?), but as a general suggestion; try 2 hrs and add a coffee break. Enjoy!
