We enjoyed visiting, and the displays are quite well labeled, and interesting. The art is unique, many local artists are shown.

Learned a ton about Iceland and it’s history and culture. Spent a couple of hours browsing through the exhibits. Many of them have audio explanations that helped me understand the nature of the exhibition much better. The museum was well curated and in my opinion,...More

We visited the national museum with our 15 and 13 year old children. The museum has an impressive collection and a lot of information, but compared to most modern museums (including several in Reykjavik) it has little interactive content. This made it difficult to hold...More

This place offers a great insight into the very beginnings of inhabitation of Iceland up to present day. Some wonderful exhibits. A few spoken word exhibits available in both Icelandic and English. I enjoyed most of these. Marked down as I thought it was quite...More

Interesting museum depicting the history of Iceland. Museum is accessible and well laid out. Two floors of artifacts and displays laid out in chronological order. Nice variety of artifacts in well marked displays. All signs and information in English.

Great spot to visit. I'm sure you could spend a lot of time here. We only stayed for a short time, but we really enjoyed what we saw while we were there. Great spot to hide form the wind and cold too!

A rainy day in Reykjavik had us wondering what to do, when we came across the museum only a short walk from our accommodation in a crazy wind storm. We were just looking for something indoors although pleasantly surprised. The museum is set out well...More

Hi, clearly this depends on a variety of factors (interest, knowledge, with kids..?), but as a general suggestion; try 2 hrs and add a coffee break. Enjoy!
