Description:

The Aurora Reykjavik is a new educational, recreational and interactive...

The Aurora Reykjavik is a new educational, recreational and interactive attraction which uses the latest advances in multimedia technology to bring the Northern Lights to life. The centre's focal point is the experience room which uses a large HD projection to immerse visitors in the Aurora Borealis' majestic green glow. The display is 7 meters wide, it is only a short time-lapse video that goes on a loop with relaxing music under it, some people like to sit there for many rounds.

You can also read about some old tales, what people thought of the Northern Lights in the old days. These stories are from different countries where you can see the Northern Lights.

We do explain the science behind this phenomena, both with a short video and some readings. You can also play with few touch screens, where you can see how the colors of the Northern Lights changes depending on the height of them.

You can learn how to adjust your camera to take a photo of the Northern Lights and try out your camera on the Northern Lights photo simulator.

We have two screens where you can see two different Northern Lights forecasts.

There is also a beautiful souvenir store at the end where you can find handmade Icelandic Northern Lights items, you can also enter there without paying for the entrance to the exhibition.

Aurora Reykjavik is a new feature in Reykjavik's blossoming tourism, it is owned by highly motivated young people who are working hard on making it a feature not to miss. When you come and visit please give your self few minutes to fill out the visitor survey and contribute to our mission.

Seriously, molecules, bouncing off the sun, explosions in space... I have no idea!!! I still don't really, but I do know that Aurora Reykjavik did help me have more understanding as to why and how the Northern Lights happen. I went to Iceland because I really wanted to see the lights just once in my life! This museum has beautiful... More

We received free tickets with our holiday so popped in as part of a Marina walk. It's a small but interesting museum, and I thought the cinema show of the lights would be great for people who maybe didn't catch them during their stay. Staff were really friendly too.

The photographs, video, and explanations are well worth visiting this exhibit -- the real thing would be better, but our South Coast guide mentioned taking folks out three nights in a row during aurora season with no success. This would be the next best thing. Highly recommended!

The museum is really interesting about the facts and figures around the northern lights. Unfortunately on our visit to Iceland we never saw the northern lights but it was great to get some further information on the lights at the museum. The museum is very interactive with different areas! Not a must see. But worth a visit if you have... More

Learn myths and legends associated with the Northern Lights. For example, in one small town, many years ago, all the able bodied men go off to war, leaving one soldier to protect the town. When the men return and find several newly pregnant women they credit the Northern Lights. There is a film explaining the science of the Aurora Borealis.... More

This museum was easy to get to from the heart of Helsinki (my group walked from Hlemmur bus station) and was easy to find. The exhibits pertaining to the legends of the Northern Lights were interesting and informative. Aurora Reykjavik had high admission prices for what was offered. Iceland prices are very high, but these seemed high even for Iceland.... More

This was a pleasant surprise & we really enjoyed the exhibits & the film of Aurora Borealis. It does not look like much from the outside. Worth visiting if you are in the Reykjavik area.

Great little museum that was a spur of the moment decision! We needed to stay out of the rain and this was a fantastic solution! Lots of science to be learned and plenty of great images of the Northern Lights! Afterwards, try the virtual reality headset! Free coffee and tea, a great gift shop and very nice staff! Highly recommended!

I visited the museum in early February, and it was a welcome stop from the cold! The museum staff were all so lovely and welcoming. The museum itself was incredibly interesting and I learnt a lot of new things - I was so happy I visited before going on a Northern lights tour as the museum had taught me the... More
