Ingólfur Arnarson was Reykjavik's first permanent settler back in the 9th century. His statue now stands on top of Arnarholl ('Arnar's Hill') close to Harpa and Laygevegur. There's not a lot to say otherwise, but it's nice to see that Reykjavik's founder is recognised inn this way, so take a few minutes to wander up and see him.

We came upon this park and statue quite by accident. It was our final evening in Reykjavik and flying home to the USA the next day. We needed transportation to the airport from our hotel on Laugavegur. The hotel booked the Flybus trip for us and told us where to get on the shuttle bus. It was a 5 minute walk to the shuttle bus stop. This is right where the statue of Ingofur Arnason is located (called the Arnarholl Statue on maps). He was the first permanent Norse settler in Iceland in the year 874. He chose the place to settle for his family and named it Reykjavik, literally meaning "the smoking bay".
This is a very nice park as well. It is situated on a high hill where you can observe much of the city center and even see the harbor from here. Seems a fitting place to have this statue. Take the time to see this, it is relatively quiet here and a good place to temporarily get away from the crowds on Laugavegur and take in the views.

Ingólfr Arnarson, in some sources named Bjǫrnólfsson (c. 849 – c. 910), is commonly recognized as the first permanent Norse settler of Iceland, together with his wife Hallveig Fróðadóttir, and foster brother Hjörleifr Hróðmarsson. According to tradition, they settled in Reykjavík in 874.

This statue is where our touristing started in Reykjavík. Unfortunately it’s taken me until now to understand the importance of this man. Around the statue I couldn’t find any information .. maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough?
The view from the top of the hill where the statue stands is lovely.

So I went to check out the Opera House and saw the statue. It is cool but not a must see in Reykjavík.

This impressive statue by Einar Jonsson (a sculpture garden of his works is next to the Hallgrimskirkja) is atop a hill at the center of a grassy park. It depicts the founder of Iceland and features Norse mythological iconography such as Odin's ravens and the world tree. There are also good views of the Harpa and central Reykjavik although there was a huge amount of construction going on when we were there.

If you are walking by the statue it is a nice area to rest and enjoy the view, but I wouldn't make it a destination by itself.

This statue of Einar one of the first if not the first settlers of Iceland stands on the top of a small hill close to Harpa Reykjavik's Concert Hall and adjacent to the main shopping street. Worth a climb up the dozen or so steps to see the view out to sea.

This is another statue by Einar. It is a nice view of the bustling location from top of the hill. Worth a stop.
