The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. The Northern lights are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect, known as the Aurora Borealis. The locations visited are different every tour since we go where it’s most likely to see the Northern Lights each day. This tour is dependant on weather and sightings are not guaranteed. Refreshments not included.

Unfortunately on our visit the northern lights did not appear. But the staff of reykajvic excursions are extremely nice and friendly and very reliable.

The buses are clean and modern with free wifi and USB charging points per seat. Hotel pick-up was usually early so be punctual. A shuttle bus will collect you from your hotel and take you to the central BSI bus terminal to get on a larger bus. This can be a bit tedious as you have to stop at several... More

Each tour was relatively on time however probably a little late leaving for the actual tour once we picked up the guides at the bus station. We ended up going on the tour twice, as this was cancelled various times due to cloudy weather and we could not go on one of the days of our trip. The trips being... More

Comfortable and warm coach. Good tour guide who was informative and helpful. Unfortunately did not see the lights properly (a tiny glimmer) which meant waiting in the cold for around 4-5hrs.

The website boasts, "Be Amazed". I was amazed, but amazed by how I had fallen for some glib advertising line that wasn't exactly truthful. On our cruise - heaving with tourists - we were 'lucky' enough to see a broad green smudge in the the starlit cruise. Our guide described this as "a better than average night" for viewing the... I took this excursion because it was part of the package deal. We did go to a nice geothermal bath first. Then this poor girl had to try "find" Northern Lights. Which I thought was a bit silly. Either they are there or they are not in the sky. We ended up on a dark road on a hill by... More

A magical experience with a knowledgeable guide. We were very lucky to see this on our first night. The lights are amazing and the stars are so bright it seems as though they are within reach. A truly memorable night.

My husband and I were on a Gate One tour. We were around for 4 nights hoping to see the Northern Lights. We were based in Hella, a small town about one hour from Reyjkavik: far enough away from the bid city lights. However, the two nights we were there, so were the heavy clouds and rain and we only... First thing to understand is that the lights are not that common. The guide warned us that the season had been poor with weeks without sightings. We scheduled the tour for the first night of our trip incase a reschedule was needed. It was. First night was cancelled - they notified us via email and we rebook ed for the... More
