While exploring the glacier region on Route 1 we pulled over at the junction of Route 1 and a side road, F985, where we saw a sign for “Glacier Jeeps” advertising their glacier trips on Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier via snowmobile or super jeep. We called and voila, we made reservations for 2pm today for the super jeep ride on... More

I so wanted this adventure to be a trip highlight, but unfortunately this experience was a huge disappointment. The site mentions that the company provides helmets, a (not waterproof) snowsuit and boots, but what is essential to bring are goggles/sunglasses and a warm, water-proof pair of mittens. They had a basket of thin knit gloves, but these were wet from... More

We had a great time on this tour - granted, there wasn't much talking, which bothers some reviewers. This was a chance to ride snowmobiles on the 3rd largest glacier in the world - not a history lesson for us. The ride up the mountain was part of the adventure - rough road, crazy big van - quite fun for... More

Our experience was a very good snow scooter trip. The equipment was brand new. We had some slow members in the group they kept our group slow and not going at all. It was better to split the group but they did not have enough instructors I guess. The hurry of our old grumpy tour guide was not so nice... More

The drive from sea level up to the glacier is an exciting excursion in itself. Then kitted out in windproof coveralls, crash helmets and welly boots for the snowmobiling. The guide -- in contrast, kitted out in little more than shorts, tee-shirt, and sunglasses! -- was pretty good, and tried hard (if not *entirely* successfully...) to disguise the fact that... More

First the glacier. Vatnajokull Glacier felt every bit like the largest glacier in Europe that it is. There is no way to describe the silence on the glacier or the vastness of the landscape. We were lucky enough to visit on a beautiful sunny day in mid-August and the glacier experience was tremendous. Now as for the "tour" there really... More

I must start out by saying we had fabulous weather. Clear to partly cloudy skies. Four senior who had never ridden snowmobiles had a blast on this trip. The staff was wonderful and was very helpful to us. They gave us lessons before we left and took us on a magnificent trip. Our drive up to the glacier was beautiful... More

We go for an excursion on skido, and although the day wad cloudy and not very nice, the ride is really amazing. You feel so small all around the white, and that's so impressive.

Glacier Jeeps is perhaps the most disorganized company we encountered in Iceland. We received confirmation by email from Jona that we will meet at 14:00 at Vagnsstaditr Hostel (underlined). At 13:50 when no one was around we called and asked what is going on. We were told that the meeting point is 7km down the road at the junction of... More
