    Godafoss Waterfall
We visited this awesome waterfall as part of a cruise ship excursion. It was a few minutes walk from where the bus dropped us off to the top viewing area. There are multiple viewing areas - top and bottom. However, hiking toward the bottom is steep and a bit slippery to navigate. You'll get all sorts of great photos at this waterfall. It was several minutes to walk back and the main parking lot is at a restaurant and shop across the road. Don't forget to keep turning around to take a few photos on your way back too from different view points along the way.

    Convenient place to visit
This is an attraction right next to the ring road so visiting is a no brainer during our ring road trip. It is also quite close to Akureyri so even we are running late to check in our accommodation in Akureyri, we still have time to visit this place. We went to the west side of the river which I believe gives a better view of the fall. (The east side has a gas station which you can also go as well since it is so close to the ring road). The view appears like a small size niagara fall so it is quite nice to spend 1/2 hour walking around.

    Starkness
Having seen many waterfalls around the world we were quite nonchalant about undertaking this short trip out of Akureyri but were very pleasantly surprised by the visit. The falls and associated river are in a position of great contrast and if just driving by could easily miss the falls. The remoteness and starkness of the surrounds blends perfectly with the thrilling cascading waterfall, the raging river below and the chill of the water. We joined a bus tour that canvassed passengers outside the cruise terminal area at a cost of €60pp, which is reasonable given the high cost of just about anything in Iceland. The return journey took roughly 3 hours. Recommended.

    Excellent falls
We were surprised that we spent over an hour here walking around the falls on both sides, on high and low paths. If you want to see the waterfall from all angles along plenty of time and add on extra if you want the cafe and/or gift shop (we didn’t bother - too touristy!) The paths are well laid out and mostly surfaced so walking isn’t too difficult.

    Favorite
This was in some ways our favorite waterfall in Iceland. We have a refrigerator magnet of it! Is pretty crowded as it is easy to access for tours. Store/rest area across from the falls is lovely although touristy. Would agree with other reviews that the walking paths are well laid out and make it easy to enjoy. Time you spend there depends on how much walking you want to do and the weather conditions.

    Beautiful falls - easily accessible
This is a beautiful fall, very near the road/ parking area. Easy access, beautiful photo opportunities. The 'legend' of how the falls came by their name is interesting. I actually saw stained glass windows in the Luthern church in Akureyri corresponding to the history our guide shared.

    Powerful & mighty
Powerful and beautiful waterfall in the North! We almost skipped this place but was so glad we stopped! The water is bright blue. Photos don’t show the true color. It was so beautiful in person. The waterfall is so massive you can see the mist a mile down the road! They have a nice sized parking lot and multiple trails/viewing areas of the majestic falls! It’s mind blowing to see how powerful nature is and when you are there in person it blows your mind to think this waterfall is millions of years old. Mighty & amazing!

    Falls are breathtaking
This was a stop we made with our tour from the ship. Absolutely breathtaking. We were surprised how close we could walk to the edge with little-to-no barriers. A little unnerving, since there were many young children in the area. Like other places in this general area, the experience is more comfortable if you wear fly nets. Plan to spend at least an hour here. The path is long, with a lot of unlevel terrain, but it is worth it to get to the area where you can get amazing photos of the Falls.

Godafoss, one of the beautiful Waterfalls in Iceland
Beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, looked like a mini Niagara Falls in Canada only 40 minutes from Akureyri, a very nice walk from both sides of the falls connected by the bridge. You can take a public bus from the Akureyri Bus station costs about USD 50. return ticket. Recommended

We almost didn't stop ay Godafoss, because it was late in the day, we hadn't eaten yet, and we had already seen a lot of waterfalls. But our natural curiosity got the best of us, and we pulled over. I'm so glad we did! Although there were many beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, this was one of our favorites. There were multiple viewing locations, up and down the river, with trails connecting them. You could get close or view the waterfall from a distance. The late evening light gave everything a surreal and serene glow. This was a don't miss for us. Plan about an hour to see all the angles, from the ledge overlooking to the foot of the falls.

We also had an evening meal at the local Hotel Godafoss, which was expensive but good. Didn't write a review of that, because you can't review the restaurant alone, only the hotel.

This is worth a drive to! We kind of had to backtrack about 15 miles but so glad we did! This is just an amazing place to not miss! Nice little hike up to the waterfalls. Tremendous amount of water coming over the falls!! You shouldn't want to miss this place!

Not far off the ring road, the falls are easy to access and an easy walk. The paths can be slippery in winter so take it easy. The falls are impressive as is the river they form to the ocean.

We came here as part of a tour group of about 7 people - the waterfall was a stunning spectacle in the winter morning light and rising sun, with the moon in the backdrop.

The major downside is that it's very very cold, and if you venture to the top of the falls, the splash from the waterfall will make for a freezing experience
