Changing lava fields, changing shapes, feeling like being in fairy tale or joining Frodo on his way to Mordor. Absolutely amazing! We did it with rental car, 4x4 of course (it is a must!!!!) It was hard but very satisfying. Be careful crossing the rivers!

We will mainly be staying in Reykjavik and were planning a two day trip to Askja to see the lake in the summer of 2017. Where would be the best place to stay to access this? Are there tours from Reykjavik or flights to a nearby town? Where would it be best to stay to see Askja?

Hey Charley H You can access Askja from Akureyri or Lake Mývatn. Various companies offer day tours from both locations, for example Saga Travel, the company I work for. Best Regards Baldvin Esra Saga Travel
