An UNESCO heritage site, a suprisingly large entity of old wooden buildings. Resembles Porvoo old town, but this place appears larger. Quiet alleys. A number of shops, some a bit bizarre with Impressions of how things likely were in the 1940s to 1970s Finland.
Took the tourist information website download walking tour, even though it was very icy in place I really enjoyed the self-guided tour. Even though it was a sunday there were a few place open and some lovely tea shops!
Very nice place to contemplate and take a look at the old houses and structures. Very clean and well maintained. This quiet neighbourhood seems to be stopped in time. Definitively worth a visit while in Rauma.
While visiting a customer in Rauma Finland they suggested I take a drive through the centre of Old Rauma. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rauma was established in 1442. A perfect example of an Old Nordic wooden town. The wooden homes and shops...More
Very lovely place, especially during Christmas time with all the decorations. Many souvenir and gift shops, interesting decorations and crowded with people - a good place where to go during December evenings!
Old Rauma is an amazing heritage town that is like stepping back in time. It still maintains its integrity by not being overtaken by commercial pressures. It has shops and cafes etc but they are a living part of the historical nature of the town....More

Remember to visit at least Old Town Hall Museum, Shipowner's Home Museum Marela, Seaman's Home Museum Kirsti, Rauma Art Museum and Ruins of the...More

Hello Helena! Thanks for asking! I would recommend you to visit Porvoo which is much closer to Helsinki. Rauma is too far away for a one day trip. Porvoo is also a very famous and beautiful wooden and old town. It lies by river and there is plenty of lovely sights, shops and restaurants. On summer you can take a boat from Helsinki to Porvoo but I don't know If there are trips already on March. Porvoo is smaller than Rauma but I am sure you will love it!
