The theater is really nice from inside but the real trick here is you will actually get a nice meal option in between the 2 acts :)
Everywhere else you get chips and similar, here it will be real food! You can even order it in advance to not make a line, I totally advise it!

Svenska Teatern is a very remarkable cultural attraction in Helsinki, especially for the Swedish speakin majority. Enjoy theatre, concerts and other cultural events here! I went to see the opening show of the Finnish acapella group Fork.

We attended a show (Kristina från Duvemåla) at the Swedish Theatre last week. We wanted really good seats and therefore paid € 70 each. The places assigned to us were however on the third balcony and they were miserably poor. Two railings on our row and one on the row in front of us limited the view significantly, and this was extremely disturbing. What was going on in the back of the stage was never possible to see.
We tried to stand up to see, but this did not work either. We tried to sit on the edge of the chairs, but that hurt too much. Everyone around us had the same problems.
Since I am tall, I hit the head in the headlights several times and I still have a big wound as a memory of the show.
You normally to pay less for bad seats and that is fair. But we cannot understand why we needed to pay the SAME PRICE for our terrible places as those sitting at the front of the stalls.
By the way, to ensure good seats, we orderad and paid out tickets in April, half a year ago.

The Swedish Theatre in Helsinki is located at the Erottaja square, at the end of the Esplanade Park. It is a Swedish-language theatre and was the first national stage of Finland.
The building has a colorful history. In 1935, the richly decorated facade of the building was replaced with a new facade representing functionalism.
The repertoire has had many popular musicals, like Mamma Mia. This autumn, it was the turn for Chess which is also an ABBA musical.
The show was stunning with excellent performers. The only problem with these old theater buildings is that they are very crowded before and after the play and during the intermission.

The Swedish Theater offers a nice Cafe in the summer. Located in the center of Helsinki.
I recommend the cafe ( in the west end of the buildlng) because: The coffe is good, you get a refill for the same little expensive price, nice atmosphere inside, clean toilet. You can sit inside or outside.

... it is a sight to see, such a quaint shape! I've never been to see a production, as my Swedish is too rubbish to be able to follow a play or whatever, but I've had a coffee. Shame on those who think it should be knocked down! It's part of Helsinki's heritage.

Beautiful theatre in the heart of Helsinki where they only put on productions in Swedish (Sweden is spoken by around 10% of population). Saw ' Kristina From Duvemala ', by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. Best musical I have ever seen or heard! Very cosy theatre and seats in the stalls with plenty of leg-room! Lovely interval meal and helpful staff. Perfect!

We visited the Svenska teater to see the ABBA spectacle a few years ago, and we just loved the atmosphere there. Everyone was smiling and happy, the actors were great, and the building itself was a work of art. Svenska teater usually producess quality plays, so its truly worth a visit.

A nice experience in a nice atmosphere. The building was extremely beautiful, and the play itself was fun and teaching. A great way to spend an evening with good company. You could sense the Finnish-Swedish culture in there. I recommend this place to anyone who visits Helsinki, so that they too would learn about the Finnish-Swedish culture in Finland.
