We included this on a circular snowy/icy walk from our hotel. Although slightly more remote than some of the other attractions it fits well in on a walk that also includes the Rock Church. We had a delightful fun walk through the park to reach...More

The Sibelius Monument was no doubt the absolute highlight of our trip to Helsinki. Perhaps because the beauty was quite unexpected. On a beautiful summer day we visited the park and monument, a bit north of town center. The Sculpture was mesmerizing - as you...More

It probably depends very much when you visit this site how much you enjoy it. With the sun setting and casting interesting light across the sculpture and nearby lake this was a good place to stop for a few minutes.

The sculpture is dedicated to the composer Jean Sibelius. Sculptured by the Finnish artist, Eila Hitlunen it was dedicated in September 1967. Considered abstract it is composed of several hundred steel pipes and looks very much like a large pipe organ, though not necessarily the...More

Because the weather was better when I visited this spot, I will remember this place to be a better part of my trip to Helsinki. The monument itself is just a small piece of artwork. Yes, it is bigger than Manneken Pis.

We walked from central Helsinki to the Rock Church, and after visiting it we continued walking, eventually reaching the coast and continuing through parkland until we reached the Sibelius Monument. It's an interesting work of art, worth seeing and taking a few photos.

A truly "abstract" tribute to the composer of Finlandia, a patriotic symphonic work (but it passes for religious in the US). The monument is comprised of more than 600 metal tubes pointing skyward -- and the sculptor denies that they represent organ pipes. The adjacent...More

This is a really interesting piece of modern art. It is a statue to Sibelius but it is unlike any other statue I have seen. It is a set of organ pipes? Is it a forest? Who knows. I thought it was organ pipes. Whatever,...More

This item of art work is more to do with sight and seeing in my opinion. You can look up though or round the engraved tubes, it is a tactile work.

Jean Sibelius is world famous for his great music, but very meaningful to the Finnish people for his compositions during the war of independence and WWII that motivated the people to fight their oppressors from the east.
