As I entered the main gallery on the first floor, vivid contrast in light and shadow caught my eye. Having seen the 'Funeral' painting, I wanted to find out more about Albert Edelfelt, as a Fenno-Swedish painter from Porvoo. Previosly, having visited Porvoo, I recalled...More

I don't know art but am interesting in checking the local arts out. The Ateneum museum is recommended by the locals, and it has both the classics and modern twists. Though I didn't know any of the artists and their work, I still think it...More

The building in itself is a work of art. Visited two exhibitions - The Classics and The Alvar Aalto-exhibitions, both of which gave good insights into Finnish art history.

Though quite small as compared to national gallery London. But still had some masterpiece collection. Right opposite central railway station. Guided tour not available.no headphones commentary also. Which I feel should be there. Overall a fantastic experience.

2hours at least walking through amazing paintings. You may find the Vincent van Gogh painting as well. At the end you can enter the contemporary art halls (2 of them) and see some modern art as well.

We both love Art Galleries and this one did not disappoint. For a small nation, Finland has produced more than its fair share of artists. Lucky enough to visit when there was an extra top floor exhibition of Alvar Aalto, the architect and designer. His...More
