Senate square

This is the most beautiful place in Helsinki. The white church in the blue sky is perfect. The long staircase, senate and university finish the picture

The Square is surrounded by lots of architectural buildings of significance. When I visited it was the site for the largest Chistmas market in Helsinki. Large Chistmas tree and carol singers.

The Senate square is a beautiful square with lovely buildings on every side of it. The Christmas markets were being set up when I was there so I missed them but the setting for these must be amazing. It is a great place to go and relax and take in the scenery and do some people watching,.

Visited here as heard it is a must see. The cathedral is beautiful inside and out and the views from the top of the stairs is worth the climb. Shame we were a week too early for the Christmas markets though.

This is a Square in front of the cathedral and is a pleasant walk. Check to see what's happening there before you go! A lot of the guide books state that there are events on "all the time" but we went last weekend in November and expected the Christmas Markets but these do not start until the following weekend and... While in Helsinki you should stop by and visit the beautiful Helsinki Cathedral. We stopped here on a sunny afternoon and ate a pastry we had picked up on the way. Sit back, relax and watch people.

This square in central Helsinki is surrounded by 4 buildings designed by the same architect. They include the cathedral and government palace and the main building of the city university.

On our honeymoon, we decided to do a self guided walking tour to some of the highest rated attractions in Helsinki. I am so glad that we were able to make Senate Square apart of our tour. The square itself was beautiful, it seemed to have a ton of culture and since we were there during the 'off' season, we... More

We visited in November on Saints Day which was particularly snowy and cold. The square was very quiet and beautiful in the snow. We did notice lots of tourist tours being dropped here though so I expect it would be busy in peak season!
