Beautiful building

We didn't go inside, but just walked by and had a look at the building, the square and the views. Has a sort of a Sacre Coeur-feel to it.

The cathedral is more interesting outside than in. Of note on the exterior are the statues of the apostles on the roof. The interior is fairly stark in keeping with Lutheran style.

One of the few important and not to be missed landmarks in Helsinki. Rather modest decorations inside the church are nice change compared to catholic or orthodox churches.

On my last day in Helsinki I wanted to do some sightseeing. When you're in Helsinki you must have seen or visited the cathedral

It was lucky to stay at the center of Helsinki near to train station, and I could go to this nice church. It is quite big and nice lutheran cathedral with open area. Inside of church it is quite simple not like general european church. In front of church there are many stairways and open square to relax.

Cathedral is interesting. A typical Lutheran church that is not too ornate. Free entry into the church. I was there during prayer service.

A beautifully designed Lutheran cathedral, however if you look closely you will see something different about this building (as told by our guide). The designer Carl Ludvig Engel, died before completion. A catholic designer took over the completion, adding his personal touch by placing statues of the 12 apostles positioned around the roof of the cathedral. the interior is quite plain,... More

This church sits like a wedding cake on a pedestal in the center of Senate Square. It is an absolutely lovely edifice both inside and out. It can be overrun by tourists during busy times.

Dont miss this. Climb the stairs, the 12 apostles are at each east west north south facing roof, the spire was suppose to only be one, the central one. Then the architect died and when it was finished off the decision was made to add the other four spires to hold up the roof. Inside is glorious, another pipe organ,... More
