The entry fee of 8€ is voluntary between September and May and compulsory at other times. The building is impressive from
the outside but a slight letdown inside. There are other places of worship with far more impressive interiors and exteriors close by than this.

This cathedral is currently under restoration outside. It's left hand side and all of it's rear is covered in tarpaulin and it's main dome has scaffolding all the way around it. That said, the main central front and to it's right can still be seen. It has lots of steps leading up to it's white walled facade that has six giant pillars to it's entrance. Above these are three figurines and two small green and gold domes each with a gold cross to their peaks. The large central dome has the scaffolding around it but you can still see it's green dome to the top along with it's large gold cross. Inside it is very bland with a couple of nice murals, lovely large organ and a viewing area above. At present it also has a massive world globe hanging from it's ceiling that takes up a lot of space and looks totally out of place. I'm not quite sure why it's there.

As beautiful on the outside as on the inside. Once inside we had the chance and pleasure to come across a Guide who spoke French correctly, free visit and in French the must, with a nice description of the statues and objects. I think her name was Lilo, a competent lady and very available. Sober cathedral in the image of Lutheran religion

The cathedral is one of the symbols of the city of Helsinki.
We were a bit disappointed because when we saw it we expected the classic view while unfortunately it had scaffolding and was under renovation. This has "ruined" a little the beauty of the structure, but we understand the need. The square it overlooks is very large and there are several bus stops, also to reach the nearby port.

His wife is into shopping. So I was able to go on the last morning. The sky finally cleared and the contrast between the blue sky and the white church in the background was just beautiful. It was pretty cold before the doors opened, but I sat on the steps in front and looked down at the square below. Tourists are still sparse and have this view to themselves. It is a luxurious time. Inside it is very simple, clearly different from other European churches which have no useless decoration. That's what makes Helsinki so Nordic. You can enjoy the square in front of the busy area at noon, but you can also enjoy the quiet of the early morning. A symbol of Helsinki. I'm glad I came.

Cathedral under tone
Certainly being a Lutheran church it is not possible to be rich in friezes and statues. Monumental in size. Characteristic for the arrangement of the pews for the faithful. The crypt, although still bare, has raised expectations for the vaults that support the above church.

The most famous face of Helsinki and Finland. It towers impressively above the city, visible from many angles. Nice large square with high stairs in front of it. Be sure to take a look when you're there. The interior is very sober and minimalist, so don't expect any splendor. This cathedral mainly depends on the outside.

I think this is a super looking building, and watching the singers at the top of the steps on Independence Day with the building lit up was special. However, the inside of the building is a let-down (at least to me - others might think it perfect!). That aside, it is a wonderful central focal point in the City and you cannot visit Helsinki without taking a look.

The Helsinki Cathedral is a notable landmark in the city. It's within a 5 minute walk of the market area downtown. Take photos in the Cathedral's square. In the summer, they do have an entrance fee. It is a protestant cathedral, so there isn't much to look at inside, so I recommend just taking an outside photo and moving on.

The Helsinki Cathedral is Lutheran and the interior is completely open, with almost no sculpture and completely painted white.
It is located in the Senate Square, in the center of the city.
It was originally built between 1830 and 1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Nicholas I, Tsar of Russia.

The Senate Square is a meeting point for the city's inhabitants.
