Magnificent church building

The church building looked powerful from the outside. The inside was also great. Stands out in the area and well worth a visit.

A wonderful iconic building unique to Helsinki and a visual display at all times of the year especially at sunset in winter at 3.05pm.

We traveled at Christmas time so were lucky enough to visit when the square surrounding the cathedral was full of Cristmas markets. The cathedral has a very peaceful feeling and when I entered the organ was playing in preparation for a concert that night. The cathedral often has musical concerts that are worth looking out for. Take the time to... More

The Lutheran cathedral was very big and white, the day we were there they were preparing it for their national day where all the important people were gathering that day to celebrate it.

We were in Helsinki for one day, primarily to visit the Christmas Markets. As such we went into the town and fell under the spell of this impressive building. As you arrive at the bottom of the stairs it commands the viewer to approach as a supplicant. When you reach level ground you are able to take in even more... More

the church is actually at the centre of the city centre which you can't miss, it is actually the icon of the city and you can locate yourself with it. the church itself is not very special in terms of design or decoration but maybe of huge importance to Finnish and that's why it is a top attraction

This is a Lutheran church so the inside reflects its protestant background rather than the usual highly decorated Catholic or even Anglican cathedrals. Simple and serene. The steps up are not too bad although if you are visiting in the winter when snow is on the ground I would recommend using the handrail.
