A must see - when visiting Helsinki. Prepare yourself with good shoes (sneakers) due to uneven ground in many places. A coffee or a glass of wine at the Piper Cafe with a stunning view to the Baltic sea!

Suomenlinna is a really great place for a nice walk with friends. It is a sightseeing spot mainly, don't miss the submarine, but we also go there to picnic. There is a great view from the island.

Populated fortress built against russian forces by swedish kingdom (finnish builders) and lost due the weak covernment. Was built on several islands and had it's own community with soldiers and their families. Old cannons and high walls reminding those days. There are restaurant, coffee houses small beach with shower. Children may have guided adventures with special outfit. No need to... More

It's more than just a fort. It's a home for 800 people set over the several islands joined by little bridges. The Ferry is great and it makes you feel like an adventurer heading across the ocean (bay) to undiscovered "olde worlde" adventures. If in Helsinki you MUST go!

This is where my parents met and where I spent my childhood summers. Filled with fortresses from the 1700s, nature and green (and tiny frogs!) in the summer and all of it surrounded by the sea. Little hobbit-like huts with grass roofs, only a few know what's inside because they are locked and out of order. Here you can watch... More

What an amazing place to visit. You literally feel like you took a step back in time. If you're in Helsinki, visiting the Fortress of Suomenlinna is definitely worth the 15 minute ferry ride. The Fortress of Suomenlinna sprawls over several islands, which you have free reign to walk from one to the next. We loved visiting the gift shop,... More

Really enjoyed walking through this island, a ferry ride from Helsinki. We had wanted to see the toy museum, but it was closed that day. I have seen quite a few fortresses and this was actually the best I have ever visited.

This world heritage site is highly recommended for a visit. Situated on an island in the archipelago in Helsinki's Baltic sea shores, you can enjoy nature and historic places in one spot.

Only 15/20 minutes away from Helsinki, you start with the ferry to the Fort...this was a great daytrip for the afternoon, specially in the winter. There were very few tourists, the visitors quickly spread across the fort and you can have a great day there. The island was very idyllic, specially by the water. The sunset there was breathtaking!

Suomenlinna and Seurasaari are the two main sights in Helsinki. Both historical places surrounded by nature. Finns go here with piknik-basket. On a sunny Day also swim here. Many museums. Try for example the Privately owned Toy Museum. Ferry from Market Square in every 20 minutes is part of the public transportation. Has Siwa-Supermarket close to the main Marina. In... More
