Went on a little chilly day. Still great. Learn history, great walk, beach in summer, restaurants, craft shops, and more. Take public ferry and use ticket on any public transportation all day or buy day pass on train, tram, etc and take ferry for free. Actually several islands connected by bridges. Residential areas as well ( about 800 people live... More

Took the ferry to see the fort. Nice museums and a good movie (in multiple languages) that helped us get an overall feel for the fort's history. Enjoyed walking the perimeter-- great views of the sea and surrounding islands. Would only go in nice weather.

Consider the afternoon at fortress to be a highlight of our Helsinki visit and only wished we had gone to island earlier in the day to provide time for the museum, explore more of the facility and to relax by the sea. To fully enjoy the visit we highly recommend walking to King's Gate and ideally arriving by 1700. The... More

Very good fun. We went on the island hopping tour, the first island 'Lonny' was dull, but were all glad we continued on the tour. The other two were fantastic walks around good history!

Took a ferry from Market Square snd arrived here 20 mins later. Am quite surprise that no entrance fee was charged for this UNESCO world heritage site. This is a site which requires ample time to walk around. Took a slow stroll around and I actually find this place peaceful despite the other tourists around.

It's a great place to spend an afternoon. The boat cost me 5 euros, and it takes about 15 minutes to get there. There are a number of cafe's and places to eat, lots of green areas, paths, and scenery. Several museums, and a uboat.

It was incredibly easy to get here. I bought a 24 hour pass on the tram for 9 euros. The tram took me straight from my hotel to a block away from where the ferry takes you to the fortress. Ferry price was covered by the 24 hour tram pass. I spent several hours total, including the 10 min. ferry... More

There's a lot of walking but in my opinion it is worth it - both time and money wise. Recommendable thing to do, if you're not taking guided tour, would be to read a bit about the history - it adds to it's importance and meaning.

We took a walking tour with a licensed guide and he was very informative and very good. I highly recommend the guided tour otherwise you won't know anything you are looking at or learn the history. The island has an interesting history and is a nice place for a walk on a nice afternoon. There are a few cafes to... More

Do yourself a favour and do not miss seeing the Fortress. Built in the 1740s to defend the City from raiders, it had hundreds of cannons and battlements built into the hills. The caves and tunnels here are well kept and you can feel the history. Give yourself about 4 or 5 hours to see it all. I would suggest... More
