I love this place when I lived in Helsinki because they offer you traditional Finnish food. Seafood here is incredible. You should try stuffed salmon. Anyway you should all be awared of Finnish price as well.

Excellent place with a wide variety of Finnish specialties. Highly recommended. Most of the shopkeepers also speak some English and will give you samples.

food is fresh, there's so much of it to chose from. everything is really clean (even the floors! which is surprising for markets) and every single person I talked to spoke english - therefore I was able to buy exactly what I wanted with their...More

We had a really sunny day so enjoyed walking the market. Lots of beautiful produce and jewellery. Also all the usual junky T shirts and souvenirs. Try the donuts. The coffee is the usual weak European style but everyone is friendly and easy to buy...More

If you have a possibility to cook food, this is the place to come. I would say this is the best market in Helsinki.

Similar to the one by the harbour but more frequented by the locals. Food downstairs and Marrimekko and some other Finnish knik knaks upstairs. Go when you are hungry and try some of their delicious looking fish or sandwiches.

The reason of my visit was to look for local delicacy for lunch. I had high expectation due to various great reviews about the Market but I didn't find this market special or impressive. The ground floor focuses on food while the first floor focuses...More

Loved this market. Stopped by early in the week and came back on our last full day as we were exploring the city. Walked here over the Pitkäsilta bridge from our hotel (Radisson Blu Aleksanteri) to the Kauppatori area then up through Kruununhaka. Huge selection...More

What is the closest tram stop?

The tram stop is is called "Hakaniemi", right next to the square. Trams 1, 1A, 3, 6, 7A, 7B, and 9. There are also buses and a stop of the metro line.
This is more like giving information. This is NOT the famous square near the harbour, which is in the middle of loads of attractions. Hakaniemi is a metro ride away from the centre and has just 10 stalls (one day a month, it has maybe 40 for the farmers's market). The famous Market Square is called Kauppatori and this is how it is listed on TA. Please don't visit the wrong place or, having visited the harbour market, then review it here. You have to review it under the Kauppatori listing.

Hello, I am interested in visiting the market when I am in Helsinki in July. As a tourist, could someone please suggest how much time to allow for a visit? Any comments on shopping for souvenirs/handicrafts at the market or nearby are welcome. Is the market close or convenient to other sites that are highly recommended? Thank you.

market has about 10 stalls and that is that. You need to go to the Kauppatori Market, not this one. On the other hand, the Market Hall at Hakaniemi is better (cheaper and better quality goods and stalls) than the Vanha... More
