This convention center is a fine example of some local architecture.
While the place could use an overhaul, it's still pleasant enough to visit.

The white Carrara marble is the trademark of Aalto's masterpiece but it doesn't tolerate the Finnish climate. Already 30 years after the opening in 1971 the exterior of the building was replaced for the first time, now a new operation with Lasa marble will take place during the next two years. A small substitute hall in wood has been erected in front of the construction site. It looks interesting with a long sheltered corridor where the wooden pillars have still some branches intact. A restaurant with a large terrace overlooking the Töölö bay will enjoy mainly evening sun.

The big white Finlandia Hall, designed by the famous Modernist architect Alvar Aalto, is a distinctive concert hall best viewed from the outside. Very cool building

This very big white Congress and Concert Hall were opened in 1971 and designed by Alva Alto.
The Concert Hall has 1700 seats and the Congress area 450 and 900 seats.
The front of the building has white Italian Marble which has caused problems and been replace in a thicker quality, but this gave the same problems, then there were talks about Finish Granite but this was not accepted by Alvar Alto.
But it is a beautiful Landmark in Helsinki , we did not go inside.

Finlandia is a huge building for all types of venues for concerts, meetings and other events. Finlandia is the place to hold it. Guided tours are available at the Mannerheimintie entrance at doors M4 and K4. Check their website for schedules because the schedules are fairly consistent, they have dates when they are not open to the public specially with the winter approaching. This is a beautiful building and it can take you about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other. So plan your time accordingly. Finlandia is located across the National Museum. You cannot miss it with the huge sign.

On its own merits, Finlandia Hall is an amazing building, especially when viewed from Töölönlahti (Töölö bay). However, as an attraction the place has its limitations. During the week, there are guided tours but it's not really set up to self-guided tourists to enjoy the space. Unless one is attending a performance, it's best appreciated from the outside. The restaurant downstairs - the Veranda - is worth a visit.

This building designed by Alvar Alto stands out for its late modernism and contextual response. Viewing it from across the lake gives it a sculpturous appearance but as you get closer, the elevational treatment with alternate strands of white marble and dark windows mimics the appearance of a piano keyboard. The interwoven marble cladding to give the appearance of a woven garment takes very high level of detailing and construction accuracy. Spending a sunny summer afternoon in the lawns in front of it is a must do for any visitor to Helsinki.

The surrounding area is a large park that is next to a lake. If it is a conference, it fulfills the purpose of its existence because it isolates you from the surroundings. It is 500 meters away from the city center with significant usability and functionality. The interior environment at the level of colors, furnishings, decoration is quite cold and distant.
