- Phayao13Stockholm, Sweden3,817 contributionsSurprises time after time, be it opera or musical. On the occasions I have made my visits, I have been delighted by magnificent and innovative scenographies, competent musicians and artists. Today was no exception when it comes to the musical The Wicked. The prices are so reasonable that you can try your hand and see if you like the art form, be it ballet or opera. Good acoustics, and you can see relatively well from the different floors. Upholstered chairs make sittings comfortable. The only thing I can think is that the restaurant environment could be updated for a more pleasant sittingVisited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023

I went see Verdi's Nabucco. The Opera House is just a 10 minute stroll from the city centre. The exterior is bit of a hotch potch, and the upper levels of the foyers fail to take advantage of the sea views. But the auditorium is superb, intimate and with excellent acoustics. And, all too rare, it took me just a minute to get a glass of wine at the interval - the cloakrooms double as bars.
The modern-dress production was unengaging and lacking in dramatic power but was fun to watch. Surtitles were given in Swedish and English. The orchestra and singing by a mainly local cast were outstanding. Best seats in the house are about £40, very good value, and I would gladly go again.
The atmosphere was informal - I went in shirtsleeves - but it was nice to see a fair sprinkling of white linen jackets among the gents on a late summer evening.

I love the Gothenburg Opera! Last time I saw Cabaret there. Professional staff and magical ensemble, wished I had booked tickets in stage but maybe next time?

This is a nice modern building beside LIlle Bonham. Worth a look at and inside but we could not get all the way in as a performance was scheduled that evening and the ticket barriers were across.

I have seen several productions during 2018 and 2019. I'm so deeply impressed by the creativity, courage, beauty and new thinking. World-class choreographers have created original and exclusive productions for world-class dancers. I love every piece and recommend all my friends to take the opportunity to have a unique world-class experience.

I had lunch here together with my co-workers. It was expensive and nothing out of the ordinary. Nice seating arrangment and a good view next to the docks.

This riverside opera house is located at the Lilla Bommen district. It was built in 1994.
With its stalls and balconies, the auditorium has 1,301 seats. The acoustics is excellent.
We were watching Mozart's comedy opera 'Le Nozze di Figaro'. It was brilliant.

This is a very interesting building on the river. The opera hall itself is pretty typical as they go. Restaurant inside and bar for drinks during intermission - was expensive but nice to have a sip of wine. Crowd at the opera we saw was mostly older. There were two displays over the stage that showed the words to the opera. The orchestra was sunken (not sure if it is always like this) so don't be shy about the front row.

Gibt es einen Dresscode?

Hi Ralf,
I am sorry for writing in English but my German is not very good..
There is no specific dress code at GöteborgsOperan. I am working at the box office there, and when I get the question I usually give the answer that some people like to be more elegant and some people don’t. Just wear what you feel comfortable in, and just wear clean clothes and not to much perfume. Welcome to our beautiful opera house in Gothenburg!
