This is a nice island that it is good to visit via the ferry from the city. Be prepared to walk as there is no real transport on the island. The walk however is worth it to see the various inlets and harbour's, WE went in March so the restaurants were closed for the season so it may be worth taking a picnic if you are travelling out of season, That said , we caught a ferry back to the city which had a cafe on the upper floor which served decent sandwiches etc. Worth the trip.

The boat trip over is about 1hr 15mins. We went on the first boat of the day so it was only around 20 of us onboard (they said it could have been up to 200). The island is ruggedly beautiful. I wish we had had more time to explore this beautiful place. Just make sure if you have children using a pushchair that you leave it behind. There is no real pathway and most of it is over rocks. In the end I folded our one us and carried it. Plus the loos are by the dock, so make sure you go before you take your stroll.

Went out on a RIB inflatable from downtown Göteborg,........-Weeeeeeeeeeee !
once out on the island,
You are flabbergasted by the beautiful archipelago surrounding you !
The great songwriter Evert Taube grew up here, while his father was the lighthouse keeper.......there was a small school for the 6-10 children in the early 1900´s, now there is a restaurant and a wide option of spectacular views!

This island lives thanks to the effort of a bunch of people that decided to save it from being razed to the groung. They guide you trough it to make you see how hard yet beautiful life must have been to those who where estabilished there up to half a century ago.
I liked it so much I decided to become too a member to sustain their cause of keeping the past alive!

The three structures on Vinga are an important seamark that everyone passes when arriving at or leaving Gothenburg by ship. But the island is not easy to reach except for the short summer period when trips run from the centre of Gothenburg.

The island is exposed and windswept but if you are lucky with the weather it is a fine day out, and there is a sheltered swimming place as a bonus.

If you are visiting Gothenburg don't miss Vinga. Go by boat from the guestharbour or visit the nothern island Hönö and go from there. Guided tours and a café, I always bring a picnic. If you feel like a swim the water is crystal clear.

Gothenburg, founded 1621, would not exist if it wasn’t for the Port of Gothenburg, which is the largest port in entire Scandinavia! There are many islands and skerries at the entrance to the Gothenburg and its port. The ships need pilots and lighthouse to find the way in to the harbor! Vinga was the home for these pilots. Vinga was the big Lighthouse for Port of Gothenburg until 1964, when Trubaduren replaced Vinga. It can be a very windy place during the stormy autumn and winter days and nights! BUT on a sunny day in the middle of the summer it’s wonderful and very beautiful! You can fish with a fishing rod or swim and enjoy the sun on these cliffs! You better bring your own tea or coffee for your picnic. If you go on an organized boat trip they will supply you on the boat!

This small island has the naked round granite cliffs that gives a genuine Swedish west coast feeling. It's always windy, but very nice to look out to the open ocean from the top of the lighthhouse

Starting with a nice harbour ride on a big shiplike boat was as a free sightsing itself. We did see so much more of the town from the seaside. Entering the open sea was exiting and so beautiful! The island we landed on was not bigger than we can walk around it in an hour, and there was an fantastic view from all sides. If you havent seen much of a sea, or experienced big ocean view. This was really nice and harmonial day spent :-) No restautant on the island, but food and drinks on on the ship, thank god! (..bring your own wine and cheese and hope for good picknick weather:)
