I went there to see the Hasselblad photography exhibition, which would only have taken 20mins, and saw the rest of the museum too. The Gothenburg Colourists exhibits was my favourite. The guidance was to take the lift to the 6th floor and work one's way down. This was the best way to do it. There were Monet's. Picasso's. Cezanne's too and even some Rembrandt's. The entrance fee was only 65SEK.

Well-chosen purchases by Gothenburg's industrialists have built an outstanding collection of beautiful art, particularly for the period 1880-1930. The displays are imaginative, with successful responses by contemporary artists to historic pieces, and plenty of interesting labelling.

The gallery is in an interesting almost art deco building of 1918 - very different to what one would fine elsewhere in Europe - and like many Gothenburg buildings on hillsides, on multiple and confusing levels with many stairs. I opted to take the lift to the top and work my way down. The rooms are spacious and attractive. Don't miss the temporary galleries, modern and tucked away at the side of the Gallery, full of Gothenburg colourists at the moment.

I enjoyed some ravishing paintings and learnt a lot about Scandanavian art too. Strongly recommended to refresh the spirit.

Note that there is a free and separate contemporary art gallery up yet more steps to the right of the main gallery entrance and not well signposted. This has temporary exhibits, fun if variable in quality.

Despite being a busy day in Gothenburg the layout of the museum enabled us to enjoy the many varied art exhibits on display without feeling rushed. A well maintained museum worth the visit

There was a temporary exhibition about Goteborg painters which was interesting, as well as the Hasselblad center. For the rest parts of the collection give an idea of Swedish and Nordic artists - the rest of the collection is quite standard, you can see more and/or better works of these artists elsewhere.

It is located in a nice area for sight seeing and people watching so a good place to add into your day out.
There is a extensive collection of a variety of different styles of art so something to please most.
It is well curated and with a nice set-up.
Also while busy it never felt crowded or cramped.

Even though I have visited Gothenburg pretty much annually since 1996, I don't believe I had frequented this museum before I decided to give it a visit on my last trip back in June of 2023. At least not as an adult. The art collection is massive and varied, and the paintings are exhibited on delightful backgrounds, ensuring that they truly come into their own in this museum. Additionally, the building itself is an old, historical one, which makes for a lovely premise to hold a museum as astonishing as this. Will definitely come back at a later occurrence as well.
Please note that large bags aren't allowed into the museum, and you will be asked by the guards to leave them in one of the lockers in the lobby.

This is a wonderful art museum to spend a few hours, with works spanning different periods. The temporary and permanent exhibitions are excellent!

The staff members with whom we interacted were warm and friendly, too.

Really good medium size museum so you can easily visit it in a few hours. Very good selection of Scandinavian art as well as a selection of other European artists. Nice staff who are very helpful.

The museum offers several floors with a wide range of art; from older pieces to modern. Some of the galleries are focused on regional artists, and it was great to see their perspectives.
