Neighbourhood: Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.

Mårten Trotzigs gränd, an alley off the relatively calm Prästgatan in Gamla Stan, is the narrowest street of Stockholm. This seems reason enough for hordes of tourists to stampede down its 37 steps to have their picture taken while they are trying to push the house walls apart. German merchant Mårten Trotzig (1559–1617), who had a shop here and gave his name to the alley, came to a very bad end

The third (or joint third) narrowest alley in the world leads from the busy street of Västerlånggatan to…not much. You can climb to the top but there’s not much point.
As I visited on a freezing January afternoon, it was deserted, though that’s probably not the case in the summer months.
It’s a nice spot to see, and shouldn’t take more than a minute or two to ‘experience’.

Walked past it by accident. It's a heavily graffitied passageway that gets slightly narrower as you walk through.

For some reason people look at it.

Oh and there are some stairs to walk up.

I don't get it...?

This is billed as the narrowest street in Gramia Stan, which is a real stretch. I walked it recently and found the "street" to be more of an alley or a path connecting two real streets, with 30 plus steps at one end. I lost count of the exact number when I encountered another pedestrian descending while I ascended.

This meeting showed how narrow the steps are -- perhaps about 3 feet wide. We had to do a sort of dance to pass each other. Our routine included me holding my umbrella as high as possible during the bad storm that was underway. As I continued upward, I realized that the edges of my umbrella scraped against building walls on the left and right sides.

i found this alley to be quite unattractive because of grime and lots of graffiti scribbles. It could actually be appealing with decent street art applied to the walls, which other cities, such as Paris, have encouraged.

Those who enjoy taking photos of various streetscapes when traveling may consider the alley to be a good photo op. If so, it can be found next to the restaurant of the same name on Vasterlanggatan. The number 81 is above the entrance to the alley.

I was really disappointed with this place. I guess you can't expect much from a simple street, still - it is a tourist attraction, it should look better. All the grafittis and dirt destroyed the fun part of visiting this street for me, making me feel as if I were somewhere in the slums, not in the beautiful Gamla Stan.

Marten Trotzigs Grand is the narrowest street in Stockholm. This is the only fact that makes it special. They say that if you walk along it with your arms extended touching the walls on the right and the left and make a wish it is going to become real.

This alley way was a disappointment for me. the entrance was dirty, with unattrctive grafitti on the walls. People were queuing to have their photographs taken there, making it difficult to get a view of it.

not much to do here, besides watching the art on the walls of the narrowest street in Stockholm (at least).

I'd seen this charming little street some years ago and thought it was one of the best sights of the Old Town.
Going back this time it was sad to see it spoiled by ugly graffiti. This looked bad enough in daylight, but at night, with the light from the lanterns bouncing off it, it looked even worse.
How sad that such an iconic little alleyway should be disfigured like this.

Had the salmon here some time ago and it was brilliant. The service quick and courteous too.

Absolutely great experience
